Should I put a cold air intake on my Civic?

I found a kit on Ebay for only $55. It claims to add 7-14hp to the car.

The thing is, the stock air intake looks like it takes in cold air from the exact same spot as where the modded kits do. I'm concerned about "hydrolocking" and I'm wondering what snow might do to a CAI.

For $55 it's tempting, but I'm wondering if you guys think it's worth it considering the risks. I want the car to last forever if possible. 🙂

Oh yeah, the car is an 8th gen Civic (current model).
 
You'll get more induction noise, and it'll feel faster because of the extra noise, but it won't be faster. If you use the lower stated power number it means you may get ~5% power gain, which is not much as 5% of 120hp is still nothing and by the time it gets to your wheels, even less. Hence save your money and just use it to buy a quicker car in the future.
 
Who are you kidding, you're driving a civic, drop this silly notion to make a slow as sh*t car slightly less but still very much slow as sh*t, it will be a total waste of money guaranteed.
 
Civics are decent little economy cars but why do people insist on trying to modify them? The amount of money that you'd have to put into it make it quicker could easily get you something that's much faster.
 
A lot of people jump on the intakes and such because they make a racier noise, are easy to install, look fancy, and engineering wise are hard to screw up too badly. Even ones built from stuff at Home Depot work. Generally though, the gains are minimal at best.

The real "go fast" parts tend to be between the throttle body and header.

Fine. So all I'm gonna put on is a K&N drop-in filter. You guys do realize that my car has a faster 0-60 time than a Mazda 3, right? It's not that slow. The autotragic Civics take 10s to go 0-60, but in a manual my car does it in a little over 7s. It's not bad really.

The K&N filter is the worst part of CAIs.

troll much? Good luck with your K&N...and make sure to put a sticker on your car that says "My Civic eats Mazda 3s for lunch"...it will give you at least 1 extra HP as long as it does not cover up your VTEC sticker in any way.
