Ok im from Sydney Australia, and some of the things ive read here are all BS lol.
Crime rate is absolutely nothing compared to the US, murders, kidnapping anything hardly EVER happens here.

And yet the crime rates as have been shown are in fact higher then the states in many, rapes and assaults as a example:

Oh another thing..... WE DONT SAY SHRIMP ON THE BARBIE.
Infact we never use the word shrimp ever, we say prawn.
SHRIMP ON THE BARBIE was meant to be laugh in dumb and dumber, since aussies dnt use the word shrimp!
And we dnt freekin ride kangaroos to schoooool and work!!!!

You may not say shrimp but you use prawn instead but either way this was started by a Australian actor and used as a advertising in tourism so it's what you say now and it's your own fault:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shrimp_on_the_barbie

originated in a series of television advertisements by the Australian Tourism Commission starring Paul Hogan from 1984 through to 1990.

So it was out long before dumb and dumber was around.

Plus we all know you use kangaroos as vehicles. :p

No one is saying it could be a nice place to visit but sand boy is tossing random crap as usual and it's fun making fun of him when he is wrong.

You do realize that the toilet water swirls the other way down there right? I wouldn't take that kind of risk.

If I were young and single Hell yes. They have Holdens which are muscle car hot rods, even the ute. Great barrier reef. Outback. Rain forests. low crime. Happy people who are not terrified of losing healthcare, job, of their neighbors, shadow. etc. I went to saudi for two years with my job and would have given anything for Oz instead.

BTW you're only going to be this liquid at this time in your life. After kids, houses, and everything it's hard just to take off to another country too many roots in the ground. Do it or you may regret it later.

hehehe, some hilarious comments, although many stupid comments as well.
It's not complicated, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne are all huge cities with a very high standard of living and mostly law abiding and civilized people, if that sounds appealing, then move for x amount of years......it's really no different to asking should I move to Chicago, Montreal or any western city with 2million+ in the greater region.

The old muscle cars are expensive and as rare as hens teeth, but you do see a number of modern muscle cars, but at $1.50 a litre for petrol/gas, not that many.

Some of the talk in this thread portrays Australia as a sheep farm stuck in the 70's, but there's 3 megacities here+Adelaide and Perth which have about a 1million people living in each.

I understand no country is perfect but the cost of living in Oz is what worry me.

What do you think of the comments from the link I posted above (post #9)? Need to make at least 100K/year or more to live comfortable?

According to the Australian movie, Shrimp on the Barbie, which came out several years before Dumb and Dumber, Australians do say Shrimp on the Barbie.

So, you are not Australian, but I'd bet a dollar you ARE a returning banned member.

Depends on the city, and what u deem as comfy.
35k's what you need to live by yourself in a small unit in the outer burbs of Brisbane, and every 5k extra is spending money or upgrade money.

Both Melbourne and especially Sydney are more expensive, but the pay is also higher.

That said, there's people who live on pensions and unemployment at $275-$350 a week, a long way from $2000.

The crime thing is lol worthy. Those statistics arnt counting crime the same in each country. Our 30% is counting speeding as a crime. It's stupid.

Australia has one of the lowest crime rates in the world, not the highest.

http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cri_pri_per_cap-crime-prisoners-per-capita

Prisoners per capita we're at #73. So when it comes to crimes that are jail worthy we're doing well.

Anyone who's lucky enough to get an opportunity to live here should jump on it.

Yeah, cost of living is high. Yeah, houses are crazy $. Yeah, there's heaps of critters that want to kill you.

Nowhere's perfect.

If you're going to be getting $70k+ you'll be sweet.

If you're getting paid 35k, things are gonna be a bit rough.

Yeah, the carbon tax doesnt affect petrol, but please, keep talking about stuff of which you have no understanding.

Facepalm.

I had a very smooth 3.5ltr V6, I sold it as it was costing me $100 a tank for 420km{which I'd do per week approx}, I bought a 1.4ltr car and it cost me $52 for 460km hahahhahaaha.

Y. Yeah, there's heaps of critters that want to kill you.

Really, where are they?
The worst I've ever seen is the occasional red backed spider, and I've lived in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.
Australia's dangerous critters aren't a problem in the major metro area's.....taxi drivers represent more of a threat, lol.

Doesn't matter because they are still in your country.

Saying they don't count because they live in a certain area does not mean they are not there otherwise we could say the same thing about every other country and use it to remove lets say the crime rates from the worst spots. :p

Not to mention Australia has some of the worst internet censorship in the world.

Then it's like saying if you never visit a part of your country with the worst crime rates then it doesn't count. :p

I'm just pointing out something very simple, ie, one doesn't have to worry about dangerous insects/creatures in the metro area's, of course common sense still applies, but the idea that Australia's venomous critters are a negative is absurd these days.

I hope that internet censorship line was a joke. Otherwise you're a fuckin retard.
