France was not being completely altruistic when they helped us. Their enemy at that time was Britain. Figure out the rest for yourselves.
And yes, the US had many reasons to help Europe rebuild after the Europeans had destroyed their continent and some of them were selfish, better trade, less chance of another war breaking out, etc..
