Shark Tank

Miramonti

For anyone who wants to be an entreprenuer, this show is a MUST watch! People pitch their business ideas to a bunch of successful tools to raise money from them.

They really bring up some great points and have a very insightful perspective that's helpful to anyone that might want to raise capital at some point. They may make an offer for the business, and the guest might accept or reject. Few deals are made, but its fascinating to hear their critiques on why it might be a good investment or not.

Missed it. Sounds like one of my entrepreneurial classes in grad school where we had to develop a business plan that was presented before a panel of different investors.

What channel is it on? BBC America I know had some show called the Dragon's Den or something like that with a bunch of British tools. Hopefully this one is better.

Exactly. These guys are probably much harsher tho...extremely greedy and more over the top, trying to thieve and willing to go pretty far in exposing weaknesses in plan, approach, or character to position themselves for a better deal (or simply to bring more drama to the show.) One dude is sort of the 'gordon ramsey' of the show w/o the swearing.

Many of the offers guests get take a tremendous amount of thinking on the spot, which most are out of their element and not prepared to do. The goal is for the business people to take as little risk of course and its a bit of a cat and mouse game.

One of the guests tonight had a patented (but never sold) invention that prohibits the car from starting unless the seatbelt is fastened. He was offered $1m for the patent and then he could get lost. He didn't take it tho because he wanted to be part of the business and get a piece of the total pie (I think? he actually should have taken it imo because he obviously wasn't a businessman.)

ABC

Not sure of the schedule tho...it was on last night and again tonight.

Sounds very interesting, I would watch something like that although the tool investors would probably get to me. One has to wonder how much of their critique is just to get a better price.

Some use it more than others, but its definitely part of the game. They also have a subtle 'white-knight' approach...3 or 4 say they are out, and the last guy uses that advantageously to come with a lowball offer. They're sharks, lol.

Every deal isn't extremely dramatic, but honestly for me, ALL have been beneficial to listen to and see the real issues brought up, how they are or aren't addressed, as well as watch the game being played by these business people.

One deal that sold tonight was with a high school teacher in Chicago that recorded songs he wrote about 16 shakespearean plays. He found that his students could relate to the music and had a much greater appreciation and interest in shakespeare thru the music. He's planning doing other authors as well.

They all loved his product, and after a few offers that almost blew his head out of socket, he accepted turning over the entire business to them (they ALL wanted in) for $250k and 5% royalties. I thought that was to low an offer, but he accepted because he'd have 5 savvy business people working their connections to get this product line to the market.

The shakespeare series that he created sold for suggested price of $500, but wasn't to market yet.

Nice, seems like a good way to jump start your business. Maybe I should develop some of my own ideas a little further and jump in the tank. I have gone to venture panels before just to hear about new technologies and products and the questions some of these VC's ask are great, not the type of stuff I would think about but then again, not really my area.

I remember a product similar to what that teacher is trying to do but it was using rap to teach math and vocabulary.

Similar show; iirc Mark Burnett decided to produce an American version of it, which is the Shark Tank.

I watched the first episode. It's somewhat interesting. One thing that bugs me with the show is that they tend to take apart any idea they don't like, pretending to know it all. Just about everyone who started a zillion dollar business was told initially by "experts" how bad of an idea it was, how it could never work etc etc.

I caught the tail end of it. I would love to get on the show with my idea, and based on what I saw last night I would be a belligerent asshole and probably reject any offer (no matter what) and use the TV coverage to get outside investors for more favorable terms.

been watching it all afternoon on hulu. i love the show although one guy is pretty cut throat the others are entertaining.

good show!

This is the Dragon's Den. CBC show. Exact same show (some of the cast is still the same). These guys are "tools" either, they are billionaire investors who have built their own companies. Kevin is my favourite

If they've kept the integrity together and not dumbed it down for America too much it should be a great show, enjoy!

Oh wow, they have some of the same guys. That's awesome, I'll have to check this out. So does that mean that Dragon's Den is over? I hope not, but it's been a while since I've seen a new one. 🙁

checked out a few clips on youtube; seems quite good.. though not quite as good (expected though i guess, seeing as its new) as dragons den which IMO is the best program over here in the UK 😀 (says a bad thing about quality of TV really though.. but eh, its good)

I'm waiting to see more follow-ups on the entrepreneurs. They already did one on pie man. He still has the pie-headed mascot though.

Good show. As the Brits say ...

Nope, Season 4 starts on Sept. 30 🙂

The only thing that bothers me about this show is the infomercial guy on the far left. He needs to go.

'I have crust on my underwear today, and for that reason, I'M OUT.'

[But...I haven't started pitching my product yet!]

The dude rejects 99% and usually gives a completely useless reason, lol.

Otherwise, my wifey and I love the show.
