Shaq going to Cavs

Shaq still has it, he can't play as much as he use to, but when he plays he's still the shit. He was Co-MVP of the all star game last year. LBJ + SHAQ = win. I pray they do it so Kobe fans can STFU. Shaq with 5 rings would be awesome ammunition to use against them.

Shaq '09 - .609 FG% | 8.4 TRB | 1.4 BLK | 17.8 PTS (with nobody in the same solar system as LBJ)
"Big Z" '09 .472 FG% | 7.5 TRB | 1.3 BLK | 12.9 PTS (with non-existent defense and the best player in the league)

LBJ carried that team with hot/cold outside help and NO inside game, none. Nobody on their team can guard a decent center. LBJ will be able to drive the lane even EASIER than before (and he already makes it look effortless).

Imagine how many high %/ dunks they are going to get. You're gonna help/double LBJ when he drives? Mammoth dunk from shaq. You're gonna stay home on the diesel and try to stop LBJ with one man? Hah, dunk.

Shaq is gonna bust his ass and be in shape to get one last ring. The only worry is if he goes down, but the motivation for that ring should be enough.

Those numbers are a bit misleading.

Shaq merely dunks or give me @ the rim. Giving him a much better FG %.

Big Z is willing to move outside the paint to hit 15 to 20ft jumpers. This allows Lebron a lane to drive to the basket with no resistance since well after a while the center gotta move out a bit. Other than Ben Wallace the Cavs spread the floor on the offensive end.

Shaq has to only really contend with Amare for rebounds, the other guys only get about 5 a game, given Suns playing style doesn't amount to much. Big Z has to contend with Lebron and Sideshow Bob. Each grab about 7 rebounds a game. I'm not even counting Ben Wallace who grabs about 6 a game.

With Shaq pretty much camped on the inside it forces Lebron to shoot jump shots more. Because well Shaqs a fat guy Lebron can't run him over and shaq still draws attention. Not counting free throws, Lebron earns nearly half of his points on the inside.

Something's gotta give. Yes Lebron is jump shooting numbers have greatly improved since entering the league but suggestion the addition of shaq will somehow allow Lebron to score better is a bit (I can't think of a the word). Plus there this giant X factor.

MIKE BROWN.

If you don't think Shaq is a MASSIVE upgrade over Z then you're high as hell. Who cares if Z shoots 15 footers if he can't make them and then gets dusted on the other end by and decent big man?

Its not a matter of LBJ scoring better its that he won't have to carry the entire load and can mix his game up. Not even going to mention the defensive difference.

When did I suggest Shaq isn't an upgrade over big Z?

You suggested Lebron will get better numbers with Shaq's presence. I merely point out that Lebron numbers are a result how Z and the rest of Cavs play. Adding Shaq changes that dynamic.

I guarantee he gets better numbers because he will get more open shots, more easy assists with someone who can finish under the basket, and most importantly: he doesn't need to go 150% at both ends for them to win.

Yeah Shaq definitely still has some left in the tank, to everyone's surprise. The Cavs have seemingly done nothing for Lebron since they got them. Every year the story is "does he have enough of a supporting cast?". Well, this previous season showed he certainly didn't. They still need to make another big move though.

Where's the option for in between "Great Move" and "Won't make a difference at all"? I say potentially great but mostly likely incremental.

I think Shaq counts as 2 players 🙂

And hopefully Mo Williams won't disappear in the playoffs again next year..that with an improved LeBron could be pretty devastating.

No way, I agree with Nitemare, It's Lebron (+1) plus the 3 players (+3) plus Shaq (-2.5) = 1.5 players.

For those that don't like the move, what move would you have made? The cavs need a big man, not even a debate. Who would you go get? Ming is locked up until next year, not going to rely on a rookie. If the cavs don't win a championship next season, Lebron will be gone.

They can't count on being a championship team next year, they dont have the pieces. What they need is a team of talent that LeBron can grow with, that's the only way he'll stay.

Yes good move. Unless, of course, the Cavs dont play the Magic in the playoffs?

This is a move by the cavs. Thats all it is. Not a good move, not a bad move. And certainly not enough to give LBJ the help he needs to win a ring.

Flash forward to 2010: "Welcome to the New York Knicks Mr James. "

All in all it's not going to hurt Cleveland for what they gave up (Ben Wallace and Sasha). Even if Shaq gets hurt, they can get someone who is on par with Wallace. And don't get me talking about Sasha. I'd say it's a solid upgrade.

Well it is doubling the number of bona fide All Stars on the team. Shaq is old, but he can still deliver on the offensive end. I think the bigger questions are going to be how well he can play defense and how many minutes he can actually contribute.

PS, if the Cavs take 2010, LeBron will need Shaq to win a championship.

Not even close to the same shaq. Kobe just won his first ring where he was the best player on the team.

umm shaq won 3 rings when he was the best player on the team so STFU

"All Star" dont mean shit... fans will vote him in every year he plays regardless of how he is playing... he is a "name brand" and will always get the votes

He wasnt voted as an all star last year IIRC. Looks like you FAIL.

thank god...shaq to the suns was an abomination from the start. although in his short stay he did win me over as a player and person, but he just didn't fit with the team.

It's perfect. He can guard Howard one on one since Howard has a weak lower body. He has one year left on his contract so if he sucks, who cares, go sign Bosh next year. He gives LBJ a true bonafide team mate that he can rely on. For the suns.......what a shame.

at least he has balls.

And the worst thing to happen is Robert Sarver. The Phoenix Suns, where Luol Deng, Stephen Jackson, and Rajon Rondo could've happened!
