This. Oh so much this. Sarver helped, but Kerr really made some RETARDED moves.

I think it's going to make the upcoming season highly interesting. I look for Shaq to be reinvigorated once again (like when he went to the Heat). We'll probably see him on the court this fall about 20lbs lighter and more muscle. However, it'll be even more interesting to see how he holds up as the season progresses. He's not getting any younger, and can be known to get lazy and bored.

at least he has balls.

And the worst thing to happen is Robert Sarver. The Phoenix Suns, where Luol Deng, Stephen Jackson, and Rajon Rondo could've happened!

What do 'balls' have to do with it? Kerr turned a contender with a missing piece (or two at the most) into a piece of crap rebuilding franchise (and he paid up to do it.) He's also given their best player Nash every reason to want to leave.

Granted Kerr took a chance with Shaq (this is balls??)...wtf was he thinking? Why bring in one of the games best 1/2 court post players ever when Nash can't run a 1/2 court play thru the post to save his life.

Suns are now one of the most lost and direction-less teams in the nba right now, and Kerr is to blame.

Shaq '09 - .609 FG% | 8.4 TRB | 1.4 BLK | 17.8 PTS (with nobody in the same solar system as LBJ)
"Big Z" '09 .472 FG% | 7.5 TRB | 1.3 BLK | 12.9 PTS (with non-existent defense and the best player in the league)

LBJ carried that team with hot/cold outside help and NO inside game, none. Nobody on their team can guard a decent center. LBJ will be able to drive the lane even EASIER than before (and he already makes it look effortless).

Imagine how many high %/ dunks they are going to get. You're gonna help/double LBJ when he drives? Mammoth dunk from shaq. You're gonna stay home on the diesel and try to stop LBJ with one man? Hah, dunk.

Shaq is gonna bust his ass and be in shape to get one last ring. The only worry is if he goes down, but the motivation for that ring should be enough.

Yeah, and he's too old to play the ego game anymore. There's no doubt who's the #1 man on the Cavs.

was there any doubt who the #1 guy was in miami and phoenix???

Yeah as much as I like Kerr (I'm an Arizona guy) he seems to be doing a really bad job as GM. Breaks up the team for Shaq, lets D'Antoni go to the knicks, now Steve Nash wants to go to the knicks too. So his track record...not so good thus far but I guess he saw the window closing on the Suns like everyone else did and decided to make some drastic changes.

They needed someone who could guard Duncan down low. He took the risk (the window was closing on Nash/Amare) and it didn't pan out. He also stole J-rich from the bobcats.

Desperate attempt to keep LBJ. Look for him to flee if this team doesnt do anything in the 2009-2010 season.

PS, if the Cavs take 2010, LeBron will need Shaq to win a championship.

Not even close to the same shaq. Kobe just won his first ring where he was the best player on the team.

umm shaq won 3 rings when he was the best player on the team so STFU

uhhh, that was my EXACT point you idiot.

in terms of what the Cavs gave up to acquire Shaq, they didn't lose much

I don't know how much Shaq will change the Cavs though. They'll definitely have a more physical presence in the middle with Shaq instead of Ilguaskas, and I'm definitely curious how Lebron and Shaq will play with each other. honestly, the youthful and playful attitude of the Cavs (which is strongly influenced by Lebron) might help rejuvenate Shaq.

This is big news, and while I am not a Cav's fan, I for one think it will be good for them and am glad to see him go there.

shaq is going to be 1 year older. skills start to decline very quickly at his age.
worth a gamble but the championship is far from guaranteed.

Yea but he's not going to be playing hugh minutes so he'll be fresh almost every time he comes in. I bet they won't even play him every game either.

LOFUCKINGL. Maybe I've had one too many nightcaps, but I just laughed my ass off.

An excellent move by the cavs. Have shaq play conservative minutes in the regular season, and top priority, keep him healthy. I just don't see lebron staying so it makes sense to put a proven veteran with him who will make an instant impact, and increase post season success. Pretty smart if you ask me.

Some already mentioned this but Shaq took good care of himself last off season and is apparently working out pretty hard this off season so far... he wants to be in really good shape of next season as he realizes he pretty much has to be SHaq these days.

Also... i don't think Lebron to the knicks is a sure thing in summer 2010. If you look at who is under contract on the knicks and some other teams who could make a play for him... it is not pretty for the knicks.

Now obviously if the knicks can get both Bosh, or someone of that stature and ability as a big, and LBJ then that would be attractive.

I think the Bulls have a much better core of young players than the knicks... i mean the Bulls gave the Celtics heck in the playoffs. Put LBJ on that squad and there you go.

Of course Stern could be bascially traffic'ing LBJ to the knicks due to marketing forces... i dunno.

Cavs have gone deep in the playoffs two seasons in a row. The season prior to this most recent one the Cavs lose to eventual champs the Celtics. Just this past season they had the best regular season record, blow through their first two opponents in the playoffs and then get stumped by the Magic when they seemed better built to take on the Celtics.

It seems strange to me how many people in this thread are essentially implying the Cavs have no shot whatsoever when its clear they've certainly done nothing to downgrade their situation...and that situation has been one of the better teams (top 4) in the league...

If last season was about finding a way past the Celtics (which we can't really say they succeeded, but is probably safe to say they would have fared better against them than they did against the Magic) then this coming season appears to be finding a way past the Magic, of which Shaq seems like a good solution.
