Don't forget the legal cloud hanging over #8. That is included in any deal for Kobe Bryant at the moment. You can't ever get fair value for a superstar anyway, what about one with a rape charge and possible jail term hung on him? Doesn't matter how small the chance of conviction may or may not be, it's still there. I think the Lakers are going to have to ride this out.

Maybe there's more to the comments than this, but it seems like a painfully transparent attempt by Shaq to bait Kobe, start a mess, and get rid of him before the season is over. But he has to know that the Lakers' hands are tied right now in dealing him.

And Kobe should know better than to play right into Shaq's hands. Stupid move all around.

Good point, another franchise probably wouldn't give up their star with the risk that they could lose kobe in a year, and be left high and dry.

Yeah when you have owners like Mark Cuban and the Brothers that own the Kings, they would have no problem trading for Kobe at anytime between now and the trial late next summer.

I think Kobe and Shaq should direct their frustrations at their opponent during the season opener - and put up 60pts each! :) No need to hurt the organization any further.

Did they go over this every season?... read in Newsweeks some weeks ago about how Kobe separated himself from teamates. And once in the locker room, Shaq pushed Kobe to the floor about Kobe should pass the ball etc. And Kobe jumped up and wanted to fight back, held by others... (like he can take out Shaq). The report quota others saying Kobe have to learn it every season. (it = whose team, play a team minded game etc)
So may be it is the thing they have to go thro every season. Or may be its the last season No.8 in LA uniform.

Gary and Karl note to themself:
Why do i come to take all this mess...

they need to sign and trade kobe to denver for mello.

kobe's a little punk. He wants to be MJ with the wizards... hand pick his coach who will bend over a chair for him and let him do whatever he wants. He doesn't appreciate anything he has or anything the Lakers have done for him. Pointing the finger at Shaq to get the attention off his legal problems is pathetic.

They should give kobe's contract to Payton... he's a true warrior who deserves to win a ring.

Shaq is a cop. Cops don't call rapists to offer moral support.
