there's no way the Lakers are going to trade Kobe unless they get premium talent back.

Jefferson is a poor man's, poor man's Kobe. :p

the only 1:1 trade is for a top tier player like TMac, KG, Duncan, or Nowitski.

TMAC... oh yeah, that'd be a dope freaking trade. OR HOW ABOUT AI??????????? OMFG, AI FOR KOBE, THE END. LAKERS 4 LYPHE.

LMAO!

and what makes anyone think the lakes would take Kmart instead of RJ for Kobe??

the only reason to trade Kobe for RJ is RJ is going to require a lot fewer dollars, we are talking salary cap here people, so in case of salary caps sometimes you trade a higher paid player for a lesser paid player even if the talent is not even.

they already have TWO legitimate superstars in Shaq and the Glove plus a fading star in Malone. RJ would fit them better than KMart would.

to be honest, because of the salary cap, the Nets probably couldn't afford Kobe, so it's all wishful thinking ANYWAY, i don't know what makes you people think that my posts were SERIOUS gm type offers to the lakers?

and btw, spanky HOW i would handle a Fantasy team has NOTHING to do with how i want the Nets handled. with fantasy teams all i'm worried about is stats.

oh well.

As much as it pains me to say this b/c I do NOT like Kobe. I'd say 95% of the teams in the NBA would take Kobe over Kmart. Kobe can score 30+ points a game, he can rebound, he can pass if he needs to, and is great in clutch time. Kmart is not the go to man when you need one and is not an upper echlon star like Kobe.

edit: assuming all else being equal (money, etc.) If you starting talking about value for your money then it gets complicated.

not true. if u know the guy is gonna walk at the end of the year... why not trade for at least something in return? teams are not gonna give up tmac or dirk or duncan for kobe, becuz they simply don't have to. if they really wanted kobe, they could try to woo him at the end of the year. where would that leave the lakers? with absolutely nothing. so being that kobe is saying he's gonna walk... it would probably be in the lakers best interests to get something in return... like maybe some draft picks and a veteran or two.

again, most of you are missing my point, I'M NOT FREAKING SAYING THAT KMART IS BETTER THAN KOBE. I'm just saying that IF we had to give up a young talent, I'd RATHER GIVE UP RICHARD JEFFERSON THAN KMART.

MY COMPARISON IS BETWEEN RJ AND KMART NOT BETWEEN KMART AND KOBE.

again trading Kmart for Kobe is JUST AS MUCH WISHFUL THINKING as it is to trade RJ FOR Kobe. any INTELLIGENT BBALL FAN WOULD HAVE ALREADY REALIZED this and KNOWN I WAS JUST TALKING HYPOTHETICAL. Sheesh.

the only way the lakers trade kobe for EITHER Kmart or RJ is if Kobe makes it REALLY REALLY OBVIOUS that he is going to make EVERYONES LIFE miserable until he goes to the nets and I do NOT believe that will happen for a SECOND.

Uh oh, looks like Kobe is pretty pissed. This was written by a fellow over at another forum who watched Sports Center's coverage of a Jim Grey interview about 30 minutes ago. Here's a summary of what Kobe said:

On who's team it is: Doesn't matter whose team it is, nobody cares, but since it is his team no more coming into camp fat and out of shape. And when your team is counting on you for leadership on and off the court no more blaming others for the team's failures. Or blaming staff members for not dramatizing your injuries so that you can avoid the blame for your lack of conditioning.

Contract/Opting Out: Leaders don't beg for a contract extension and negotiate some 30 plus million dollar deal in the media when we have 2 future hall of famers playing here for pretty much free.

Some of the Big News Now: My Knee is not strong enough to play yet. I know it. When it is, I will play. But I don?t need Shaq's advice on how to play hurt. I've playing with IV's before, during and after games. I don?t miss 15 games because of a toe injury that everybody knows is not that serious at all. Probably not, will not play tomorrow night. If leaving Los Angeles is what I decide to do a major reason will be Shaq's child-like selfishness and jealousy. He is not quote unquote big brother. A big brother would've called to support. I heard absolutely nothing from him. I spoke to Devean, Rick, Mitch, Phil, and owner Jerry Buss. Shaq's own uncle called 3 times. Other teammates reached out and left messages like Derek, Mark, and Slava Opponents like Webber, Maggette, and other's left messages. Even Michael Jordan who didn?t have my number tracked me down and left his support, same as Tiger Woods. But yet, nothing, nothing at all from my so called big brother. Asked Phil Sunday to do something before this boils over but he backed away and so were here right now.

Apparently, Kobe said even more than this.

well, since we're talking hypotheticals, as the GM of the Pistons I will graciously match your deal by offering Tayshaun Prince for Kobe Bryant ;)

i understand what you're saying. my statement was from the Laker's ownership perspective.

no Kobe is pissed because practically every person of note in the NBA called an offered support when his rape thing came up. The exception was Shaq. Kobe was saying don't call yourself my big brother when you were the only person not to call

I wonder how this will affect them on the court?
I also wonder what stance Karl and Gary will take on this.

:Q

Wow. Kobe dropped an atomic bomb with that. This is a full blown soap opera.

I happened to listen to a little bit of Rome today, he was calling on Phil to earn his $6 million and go get the peyote and sign everybody up for the book of the month club. :p

You can't trade Richard Jefferson for Kobe. Because of how the salary cap works in the NBA. You would have to trade someone else to match the contract of 13 million that Kobe gets.

The Lakers should get rid of Shaq. For 30 million, you can re-roster your entire team with a deeper bench and better starters. Kobe's right, that they have 2 all stars playing for 4.9 and 1.5 million and shaq wants 30 million? I can't believe he's already whining about an extension when his contract now doesn't expire until 2006.

One ideal trade was to send Kobe to Chicago and get Tyson Chandler + Jalen Rose in exchange. Or Donyell Marshall. If Kobe is going to walk, they should definately think about trading him and getting some talent in return. There's no way a team would give up a superstar in exchange for Kobe when they can pursue him in the offseason.

i never disagreed with it. if you read the rest of the thread you will see i made some similar comments regarding the cap.

the statement i was reacting to was, trade Kmart for Kobe, which has the same cap problems etc as trading RJ for Kobe.

actually, Kmart will be making more money so would be less attractive to the lakers.

again, i was just saying that if the Nets want to dangle someone, i think they are better off trying to trade RJ than Kmart.
