It has to do with mocking another race or culture in a demeaning way. "ching-chong-ah-so" is a racist remark towards all Asian languages. It's based on the fact that the person using the slur doesn't care to differentiate between the languages. They just sound the same to him/her.

To understand why that (in particular) is a racist remark, I think you need to have been a kid growing up and have kids slant their eyes with their fingers and mockingly say, "ching-chong-ah-so". It hurt me as a kid growing up, so I can personally attest to that.

It's true that i know very little about asian languages, just as you probably couldn't tell the difference if i'm speaking swedish or danish, i could probably not tell the difference if you are speaking vietnamese or japanese...

I wouldn't want to belittle you, but just as "hurdy durdy murdy" is a joke made of the Swedish language "ching chong" is of the chinese language... i don't see either as racial, but maybe that is just because i am too naive...

If asians feel this was racist (as it should be), it is up to them to let the world know that shaq is a racist. They need to be more political. No one else is going to look after them. Blacks do it. Jews do it. It is now time for asians to start formulating PC organizations. Racism is based on competition and ignorance, among other things, and it is up to asians to expose racism within the american system so that it can be dealt with. If they choose to whine and be quiet, no one will care.

It's more cuturally insensitive than it is racist. When people make fun of Germans by speaking with a mock German Accent it is exactly the same thing. He wasn't making fun of an American with asian ancestry, he was making fun of a Chinese National. THAT, my friend, is the double standard I'm pointing out. I am not taking a stand on whether doing so is racist or not, as I don't believe it is. But rather I'm taking a stand against an obvious double standard.

The funny thing here is that Classy played right into the point I was trying to make.

I'm talking about cultures from different countries not cultures based on race. If I were to make fun of an Asian American by talking in pigeon English then it would be racially insensitive. At best your argument nullifies my original statement.

I believe that is true, because here in Sweden we have no history of slavery and there is no double standard, the racists/neo-nazis (unfortunantly there are plenty of them here) refer to everyone who is not a swede as a "svartskalle" the direct translation is "blackskull" whether he comes from Italy, bosnia, africa or whatever...
