All I know is that Shaq made all of his money in college, and not in Orlando. ;)

Everybody knows Shaq made it big in college.

Except in this game in which the tallest player on the UK squad was 6'7".

:D

What a shame. With all that talent, Dale Brown still couldn't coach Stanley Roberts, Chris Jackson (aka Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf) and Shaq with any measure of consistency.

"Tell Yao Ming, 'ching-chong-yang-wah-ah-soh."

LoL. :D Sounds like something I would say to my Chinese friends.

You guys ever watch Rush Hour where Jackie Chan goes to the black guy and says Whats up my awesome dude...and all the black guys try to do bodily harm to him?

What would the reaction be if Ming were to go off and say "Shaq, my awesome dude, youre no baller. White guys got more game than you." Think there would be an uproar with him saying that?

man, mostly democrats here. Had it been the other way around, there would be an uproar. People are so afraid of saying anything about blacks. Any other is fair game.

Yao will have the last laugh when he is voted to the All Star team over Shaq.

I remember years ago when Shaq went to Greece to play in the Olympics. A reporter asked him if he had gone to the Parthenon. Shaq replied with: "Yeah, we have been to all the cool night clubs." LOL

Who cares if Shaq is racist... I haven't heard anything of his comments in Sports Illustrated, or in any other major periodical, I also haven't seen anything of it on any sports network such as ESPN. There is no question that there is conflict between shaq and Yao, with the All-Star break coming up with Yao and Shaq having the top votes for Center. "Asianweek"? don't you think this author might be a bit on the racist side? Communism vs. Capitolism? A bit ethnocentricsm? Yao comes into the league and does well, and Shaq is being downplayed now, Yao is the man now... Communist society now has something above and beyond the United States, they have just one upped us in something.. they're finnally better than us at something.

I take this article with a grain of salt.

You know, I've never heard a grown man make such an immature comment. I hear kids saying this but a grown man? Is he just bitter because Yao is leading the way in the NBA All-Star voting?

He said he can't compete with the millions of Chinese voters in China.

A good friend of mine is white but speaks fluent Chinese...she lived in China for several years to hone her understanding of language. I've been to Chinatwon with her and she interprets all the vicious insult cast our way.

When buying food, the person behind the counter takes my order and then turns to the cook and says (in Chinese), "dog boy here wants..."

But you know what...I don't care what anyone calls me or refers to my race as.

Life is too short to give a damn about public opinion.

What shaq said was highly inappropriate. I've met the guy several times and he is truly an a55hole. He is conceited, arrogant, and treats his friends like servants.

Yao Ming is an excellent, humble player. Shaq has a lot to learn from him. I don't mind getting flamed, so i'll say it.

A lot of Blacks have no problem being at the forefront ridiculing homosexuals, asians, Jews, or hispanics. But when someone says something to them, they get all pissed off. I know a lot of people are ethnocentric, and you can be of any race and still be racist, but there is a very high number of blacks that are predujiced to homosexuals, Jews, and orientals in particular, and IMHO, you would think they would be the LAST to do this.

On the other hand, I've personally observed that Jewish people will support anti-discrimination movements WHOEVER it may be. They were very involved in the civil rights movement of the 60's, and even today they are involved in human rights and will help people of any background. I have heard many comments by the blacks i associate with (mostly my employees) and they say awful things about Jews. Without being overly rude, i tell them "You really shouldn't say that" and they laugh and think it was funny or something. My hispanic, white, and asian associates dont' speak like that.

Yes. If a white guy made a comment like "Iza be going pro now" or immitated some black players speech, most of you would say he was. So I think the author is correct in his assesment and Shaq is accorded to much benefit by the media.

Everyone today is so quick to cry racism... from my stand point his comments were more an attack on his nationality not his race, he knows that Yao comes from China and doesn't speak english well and thats what he was making fun of... trust me Shaq would have made the same comments about the guy if he were white, black, purple, green.

Asia also includes (unknowing to many racists from the Orient) all of India (700 mil) all of the middle east (500+ mil), Russia (150 mil) and all the ex-Soviet states that border Europe (250+mil) but they are not "Asians" to allot of folks.... I just find it funny that these people aren't considered asian because they are white or arab ir hebrew, etc.

technically you're probably right that he would have made fun of him regardless of his skin color, but in reality, people consider that racism.

And you are correct on Asia, unfortunately, people seem to isolate Asians as 'orientals'. I personally think Orientals was good to differentiate the groups, but some thing it isn't P.C.

Shaq's comments were about as racist's as Lott's. Which is not very. Now lets see who gets blasted.

Racism is overused and so YESTERDAY.

shaq is not racist. he's just making fun of yao ming, like he calls the kings the queens. same thing, except he's targetting an individual and not the whole team.
