I just read this a few days ago, and it confirms that Shaq is a complete idiot.
As an Asian person, I can attest to the fact that "ching-chong-ah-so" is a racist statement. A very childish one too. You expect that from an elementary school kid.
I hope he bites his tongue off when he's trying to dunk over Yao Ming, so he can't speak anymore :|
I don't understand how making fun of a language can be racist...
Does that only go for Chinese or is it the same thing with other languages? If it is, please specify which languages, i wouldn't wanna be a racist by mistake....
What if you saw a white guy speaking in ebonics, or worse yet, like a southern slave when making fun of a black man. Would that be considered "racist?"
The double standard continues to amaze me here.
hmmm... did the southern slaves have a language all of their own? or is it just the american words you mean....
What if i saw a white guy speaking in ebonics to make fun of the language, hmmm... to make fun of the language? if he said it was intended as a joke?
I still don't think making fun of a language is racist... but i do think the expression "me love you long time" is racist, yet this is accepted by most americans as a joke...
I don't think it's racist either. However, most people DO think it's racist if one makes fun of how a black person speaks, or of how black people used to speak.
It's stereotyping, and making fun of a culture, not a race.
That said, there IS a double standard. If I made fun of Classy by speaking in ebonics or mimicking southern slave lingo, he would instantly call me a racist. Hell, I'd probably be banned from the board as well. But when this kind of thing is done to another culture or race, Classy denies that it is racism, and tells the person to get over it.
THAT, my friend, is the double standard I'm pointing out. I am not taking a stand on whether doing so is racist or not, as I don't believe it is. But rather I'm taking a stand against an obvious double standard.
