Hoober, congats!

I very much enjoyed the Vince Flynn/Brad Thor/Lee Child series of books. How would you compare you book with some of theirs? Since the subject matter is related, especially for the first two authors I listed, I assume you might have read some of their work.

Thanks, davmat787 -- the book is similar in structure and pace to some of Child's Jack Reacher series. I haven't read Thor, and I could barely make it through the only Flynn novel I tried.

Keyser Run is in the same genre as these authors, as well as Daniel Silva, Clancy's very early works, and Jack Higgins' early works. I've been reading these authors for many years, so they definitely influenced the work.

Of course, the primary difference is the female lead. Try writing a woman to compare with some of these male leads, but still make her a woman. 🙂

I think if you enjoy those other authors, you'll enjoy Keyser Run.

You had me at Silva. 😛

Thanks, I will add your book to my 'buy' list, I have thoroughly enjoyed every Daniel Silva book as well. viva Gabriel!

Well, to be fair, how could I reasonably expect to advertise it on ATOT without giving the protagonist pointy elbows? Had to make her realistic, or else you all would've laughed me out of the room.

You should have described her in the book as having pointy elbows.

I know a friend whose other half is in the process of getting his book published "THE LAST OF THE GODS". Wanted me to read it. Turned out to be your basic pedophile porn, man-boy lust crap, set in Roman era. Two chapters in, I quit and deleted it. Can't wait until he asks me what I thought of it... And yes, I will tell him exactly what I thought of it. Pervert.

(sorry... off subject)

Audible.com ??????

I'll look into it, thanks.

Unfortunately, I don't have the $$$ to produce and distribute an audio book at the moment. Kindle can do text to speech, and we've enabled that in the DRM, but it's obviously not the same.

I smiled after reading this. 🙂 Literally.

You don't need to worry about that with this work. Scroll up to see the review from another ATOT member.

haha I'd have bought it for that alone 🙂

I may pick this one up, just need to replace my Kindle...(left it on a plane...damnit)

Almost left my iPAD on a United flight last week. After the second kid, I've made it a habit of looking back and checking the seats after flights, restaurants, etc. Glad I did. Stuck it in the seat pocket and completely forgot about it until I looked back while deplaning.

Hoober:

how did you write it?

did you lay out the plot and characters on cards, did you use softwhere (if so what), when in the day did you write (morning for an hour, when you 'found the time' or ?) and how did you pre-review (wife, family, editor etc?) the book?

Now what I really want to know is...does the other woman in your novel have pointy elbows? 😉

lol, yeah...you aren't going to get burned like that if you buy this book. Honestly, if I didn't know it was from a small, independent type publisher, I would have never guessed. I'm really not one to read indie work.

Word was only software used, other than InDesign to handle the formatting for print and epub.

I created a general outline and notes on each of the characters, and put the book together at night and on the weekends. It took roughly 3 years to get it close to the current iteration. I hired an editor a little over a year ago and spent most of 2011 integrating some of his suggestions and changes into the work.
