So I finished the campaign last night, and now I'm trying my hand at the few custom campaigns in the Steam Workshop. Did one, don't even remember what it was called but it was a basic 1 hour demo for an in the works campaign and I really enjoyed it. If the community for this game really takes off we have another Neverwinter Nights on our hands, and that would be fantastic!

Yep, really enjoyed the campaign. If I remember correctly, there will be two more (free!) campaigns. The next one arrives in October.

I haven't played any community stories, yet. Working on the Steam backlog... by the time I get back to Shadowrun there should be a lot of good content.

Yeah, I still have this at the top of my radar and really want to get into it. Waiting for a little more maturity, I guess, and more time outside of the other games I am playing.

Well put down your mesbo in GW2 and spend the 12 hours it takes to play this :D

You will enjoy it. I loved my dwarf mage. He nuked people like crazy. I did several missions with just 3 people because he could kill everything. My biggest complaints were the lack of intuitive controls/UI. It took me 3-4 missions to figure out how to reload a gun... Made it interesting mix of weapon/melee though, making sure I saved some shots for the big fights (or using multiple weapons and swapping back and forth).

They've put out 3 patches already. They only thing that really needs more time is the user generated content.

I just started this and have done the flashback and the 3 fights on the first map.

Am I missing something, or do the bad guys always get to attack first?

It's annoying to know I'm going into combat but not be able to start it myself. I have to wait for the bad guys to start, then shoot me.

hmmm, shouldn't be the case, but I do think that might be tied to one of your stats--Quickness, initiative, something like that?

I don't recall always having to wait for a complete round of enemy turns before I could make my first move; though sometimes, in certain story moments, they will appear, basically ambushing you, so they do get to rush in and find cover or shoot first at times.

I think it's a fun game, has some flaws (cant' save when you want, but then it would probably be too easy/exploitable--but hey, it's a PC game. I want to quick save ><).

There is a new pack coming out that adds another campaign, I think, and introduces real saves. Not sure if I will get it, though. the game is fun and I loved going back to the Shadowrun world, but I can't see myself playing through as another class, just to see what it's like (Street Samurai with high quickness and just AR'd everything to death--way too easy). I'm just not sure the campaign is worth another playthrough, for me.

Ah, I'm playing a mage with the default 3 for Quickness, and the other guy who joined me for awhile probably had low Quickness too.

We never got a first shot so apparently on the first map everyone had a higher stat, even the enemy mages.

I could also be very wrong about that--particularly for quickness, which might only affect your percent chance to hit on ranged attacks. I assume though, that there is another skill that influences initiative.

I think they totally tossed initiative out and who goes first is completely scripted, because after the first round it is always back and forth. Your whole team goes, the enemy’s whole team goes, and then your whole team goes, until combat ends.

EDIT: You don't even have to take your turn in any order. You can move one character, click on a second character and move him, Fire with a that second character, then go back and cast a spell with the first, then attempt to hack a door with a 3rd.

If it matters, I don’t remember it always being the enemy that goes first. It really matters on what is going on. Sometimes you get the drop on them, sometimes they get the drop on you.

Now that I've finished the main campaign I can confirm that all of the above is correct. Which side goes first is scripted, and within each side you can use your action points in any order including interleaving them. Shooter A takes a shot, leaves a point for overwatch if possible, B takes shot, kills enemy, sets overwatch. A uses the unspent point for overwatch too.

Tip: Mages can do overwatch with magebolt too, if you put 4 levels into ranged combat. So don't bother with more than maybe a point into shotgun for close-in if you're a pure mage since your bolt will be as good as a gun except their special attacks.

Tip 2: For pure mages, start as Human + "?" custom class. Body = 3 or 4, Quickness maybe 2-3 (later 4) and maybe 1 point each into ranged, shotgun, dodge to start. IQ 1-2. Charisma 1-2, more later if you want etiquette or Haste (which needs conjuring). Pump up Willpower + spellcasting

It's a fun game if you like turn-based RPGs. I'm playing a user campaign now that I've finished the main one.

Yeah, I liked the shotgun-wielding henchies--particularly the girl that is one of the main story NPCs (she's also cheap in comparison).

Just set them on overwatch and the spread AoE skill and they can mow down a few targets if one of them moves into their zone.
