Raise the minimum wage to 15 dollars an hour and lets see how much more employment this generates.
The point is that employers will weed out those who do not bring what they feel is the minimum wage (ten dollars an hour in this case) worth of skills/value to a job site. This is especially true for smaller businesses who often must compete against larger businesses who operate based on volume and razor thin profit margins.
Edit: This isn't even addressing the cost of living increase that will occur and thus force political voices to demand a higher wage regardless of the economic state of the local economy and businesses who must find a way to thrive and compete.
Edit 2: At 10 dollars an hour, why would an employer higher local teenagers (especially minority teenagers) when they can get someone with prior work experience and a established work ethic? Such as an unemployed college grad, a senior citizen whose retirement can't keep up with inflation and the cost of living, and as shortylickens stated an illegal alien (Yay for SF being a "Sanctuary City"!) who also will more then likely have past work experience and an established work ethic.
