Don Vito Corleone
Elite
If he is found guilty (which, from what I have read, seems likely), they should execute him. If for no other reason than to try to undo some of the damage he has caused...to save the lives of some other servicemen he has now put in jeapordy.
I suspect the only way that would realistically happen is if he, like Timothy McVeigh or Gary Gilmore, voluntarily waives all his appeals. If not, it will take years and years. Appeals of all criminal convictions are automatic in the military, and all defendants convicted of crimes get free, competent appellate attorneys. The appellate lawyers' primary responsibility in that situation will be to keep him alive, and they'll be able to do so for a long time.
