Sounds like the truth of the matter to me. What am I missing here?

It's pretty remarkable that this many members of the president's own party have come out and basically said that he's a childish, mentally ill incompetent. The fact that the White House has responded in this way (as it always does) is just further proving their point.

Flake is "retiring" because he has zero chance of getting reelected...his poll numbers are horrible.

The good news about this though is that his primary opponent is an even worse general election candidate than he is so the nuttiness of the GOP primary voters has helped the Democrats somewhat. It's still a long shot but if the GOP wants to put the Senate in play too I doubt many people would be too sad about that.

How should the White House respond?

Hooray for you and your side!

You should want Democrats in control of the Senate if you care about good government too, although I see no indication that you do. We all know that what's going on in the Trump administration right now is a rampant violation of governing norms and there are strong indications of at least corrupt and potentially criminal activity going on which is not currently subject to effective congressional oversight.

If the Republicans aren't going to do their job and oversee the executive we should all want someone else to get in who will.

Spoken like a true "patriot"! The sad thing here is that you're actually being serious.

I'm thinking scuttlebutt is making its rounds through the halls of Congress that Mueller has got Trump, his family and his liasons with the Kremlin zero'd in and is about to pull the trigger on them.

Best to get out or disassociated before the net of guilt by association gets cast.

The sad thing is that you think there's no problem. In your heart you know as well as I do that Trump is totally unqualified, unstable, and corrupt. He's on your team though and you don't have enough integrity to admit it.

I doubt that. Someone would have leaked something if this was true.

Do you have anything that even resembles a half-assed fact? Or is this just wishful thinking on your part?

No problem? Not true at all. Why do you lie so much?

One of two possibilities 1) As someone mentioned, Mueller's got more than what he needs and rats are leaving a sinking ship 2) "Moderate" republicans have had enough of Trump's shit and rats are leaving a sinking ship.

It's not all about how they're polling. Corker would have won in a walk. Flake, if he beats whatever nutter Bannon runs against him in the primary, would likely win (although closer). Folks leaving the house are even safer. Something is up. Maybe

It's a hunch I have from following this ridiculous topsy-turvy turn of events that Trump is leading our nation through. I'm not trying to prove anything or make an unfounded accusation. Just sharing a thought that came to mind, like we all do on occasion. :)

If he truly believes any of what he said today, Mr. Flake would run for re-election and do his best to gather up allies to right the ship. His party - and more importantly - his country need people with stiff spines now more than ever. Instead he'll posture for the next year and a bit, and take a cushy private sector job. Today's Republicans are horrifyingly devoid of morals.

As I mentioned before I welcome you asking around the board to see who people think is more honest you, or the 'pathological liar'. You will never do this of course because we both know what people would answer.

I'm glad to see you're on board with the Senate radically increasing oversight on Trump though. Since everyone with a brain knows the only way that's likely to happen is with Democrats in control of the chamber we've come to an agreement.

Winning!

As more moderate Republicans leave office and or their party they will continue to be overtaken by more extremists and the party will continue to die until a true moderate Republican party emerges. Mark my words. This is the beginning of the end for the Republican as we once knew it.

It's very unlikely people are jumping ship because they know what Mueller has. I sincerely doubt a secret of that magnitude would stay a secret long.
