From fud:

Price:

Can't wait to hear the apologists on this one if true. For christ sake even *I* expected a better price than 550$ considering the 2gb variety, 2gb isn't even enough for good 3d surround gaming. Unless 550$ is for a 4gb version, then it might be more reasonable. So what gives here? Wait lemme guess...its AMD's fault. nvidia are idiots and have no independant will, so they price their cards the same because they're sheep. Or, wait. It has cuda so they get a free pass on 550$ pricing. No, wait. Since there's a grand total of 1 physx title per 10 months that makes the price premium worth it.

Lets hear the excuses, go.

Just wow.

Plastic bags are the new woodscrews :D

HEY GUYS, Nvidia is totally coming out with an ownage card, It's gonna spank the 7970 by 30%, cost 300$ and run on a 200W PSU and come with a free pony!!! Except that it'll cost 550$ not 300$, whoops. About the performance... yeah, it's not going to beat the 7970 by 30%. More like trade blows. And you'll need a beefier PSU, the cards rated at 190W ...No that's not the maximum power draw, thats Optimum Balanced Load Median™ TDP. And it's coming out 2 months later than 7970. Wait, make that 3. At least you still get the pony! ...Yeah, about that pony...

Eh, bring on the 7870 competitor and I'll be happy.

OMG the anger? What is up with that?

Come on guys, no progression whatsoever is good for the PC gaming industry! Those supporting the higher prices are right, the barrier to entry needs to be higher because this isn't some casual hobby people have here, it's a way of life. If you can't justify a $500+ graphics card purchase then you don't deserve to be a PC gamer, go play consoles! haha lololz

Looking forward to hearing all the whiners who complained about the 7970's pricing complaining about the 680's pricing as well. If all pans out as we are hearing this card will be less of an increase over the 580 than the 7970 was over the 6970 for the same price range.

One may imagine the same people should be complaining constantly about pricing on the 680. :sneaky:

Nice fallacy...but not biting.

My only grief are with the red team posters (that are not going to buy the card) have gone into "Silly season"-overdrive...and try really hard paint a picture...blindfolded.

But on the other hand...between alll the false claims and some&mirrors...there is some laughs to be had....a few...the rest is just /facepalm.

Most people are trying to paint a picture, whatever that picture might be, so that they can give themselves an idea of what might be coming and whether it might be worth waiting for/caring about.

Or do you think that "fast as HD7950 for $300" came from the "red team"?

If the "680" costs the same as the 7970, I expect the same people "will" complain. What would be the surprise there? And what's more, why are you looking forward to hearing some whining? :\

That may very well turn out to be true, but remember this is only suppose to be nVidia's midrange GK104 card, not the real true successor GK100 / GK110 which is suppose to come in probably Q4.

You can blame AMD for forcing nVidia's hand by not coming out with a more competitive card / pricing scheme.

Or you can call it a pricing collusion between the two to keep prices artificially high.

Lastly, you can blame TSMC for the trickle supply of Radeon HD 7000 cards and the no GTX 6XX cards of any kind.

I like the two 6-pin connectors; it means it should have a lower TDP than the 7970. If it performs similarly, the lower power consumption will be icing on the cake.

If it is the same price as the 7970 my guess (based on past behaviour) is that it is, overall, slower than it (or there is some other metric that is undesirable vs the 7970).

In all honesty, unless Nvidia has pulled a miracle of engineering I wouldn't expect GK104 to top Tahiti. Perhaps they can beat the conservatively clocked 7970 if they push the chip to it's limits, but if you push Tahiti to it's limits as well it's probably still going to end up faster. I guess GK104 may have the advantage of having less GPGPU/ECC stuff put in, but I don't think it will be enough.

That being said, if the perf/watt is anywhere as good as they say, then I may pick up a couple if there are reasonably priced 4GB cards. Most likely I'm waiting for GK110 or AMD's 28nm GCN successor if it comes out soon enough.

Really?

Is it just me, or are there some very recent posters writing pretty juvenile short posts?

Performace per watt is important. However, there are more important things like:

- oc headroom
- operating temperatures
- price

If Radeon beats Geforce in any two ^, I'd get them instead.

I'm sure your post here has meaning. Just not for me. I'm guessing this is the beginning of a twist of sorts? Just let me know.

Operating temperatures (and noise) are partially affected by the TDP. Given identical coolers, the card with the lower TDP will run cooler, or run at the same temperature while being quieter.

This is one area where the 7970 fails – it uses much less power than previous generation cards but it’s substantially nosier. That’s a failure to properly balance the cooling design to take advantage of the new architecture.

As for price, it looks like the GTX680 will be about the same as the 7970.

If it costs the same as the 7970 while using less power and performing the same, nVidia will have a winner on their hands. Some people can’t see such a basic fact.

Apparently this is an example of one of the coolest people you'd ever meet... Am I missing something?
I'm referring to the man in the photo not Vagabond btw.

How so? He works for Epic not Nvidia

No, the tension is sort of fabricated. Was it because of Charlie D's "prediction" that everyone is having a heart attack? :D

No, it's because AMD has launched their full range of 28nm parts and Nvidia's are nowhere to be seen.

Its AMD's fault that nvidia can't competitively price!
Also, vaporware is their high end card? I thought maxwell is their true high end card? 7970 is AMDs midrange card, sea islands is high end.

blame AMD for forcing nVidia's hand

If it's called a GTX 680 and costs $550, it's nvidia's flagship card. Flagship card is defined by = most expensive, fastest card from that vendor. Specifically to nvidia the X80 moniker has for years now also defined their single-gpu flagship part.

I don't feel the need to blame anyone, but the only ones who are going to be responsible for the nomenclature and pricing of this card will be nvidia.

Yep, all the funnier given that AMD lied about Bulldozer's transistor number.

Well, check out Apoppin's reponse over at: http://alienbabeltech.com/abt/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=24247&start=230#p60262

So funny!!!!!!!!!!

No!

You don't realize that even with with Nvidia using less power,
and with all other things equal...

They are 3 months late, AMD already sold couple of thousand 7970/7950, couple of hundred 7770/7750,
but some nasty trorrs comprained about their grorious pricing.

So Nvidia needs to be punished!

:sneaky:

Also... 7970 can be overclocked

Dude, its AMDs fault that nvidia doesn't have GK110/112 released yet.
