The only criticism I've heard about the X-series is that some users over at silentpcreview have reported electronic/coil noise.

While others, like Anandtech, report on their 460FL review:

"Since there is no fan, there's not much point in measuring sound pressure levels, but what about noise from the electronics? There is nothing, no matter if there is a PC case between our ears and the PSU or not. No coil is singing, no capacitor is squealing, and we've got a dead silent PSU!"

It's possible that other components are causing the Seasonic to buzz. But still, it's worth noting because no one wants to pay a premium to constantly hear a buzz.

I have coil noise on mine when idle, but my mobo has a history of inducing whine from PSUs.

Soooo........you just deal with the noise? D:

High pitched noises would drive me insane. Especially considering that often times I'm doing productivity work in the dead of night at 1:00AM+.

It's not really that loud. It's barely audible. I almost didn't notice it because it's essentially the same frequency as the tinnitus in my ears. I wear headphones and listen to music when I am on my computer. My computer isn't setup to run silent either. I have plenty of fan noise.

I bought a new Seasonic 400W passive power supply and unpacking it tonight was almost like unpacking an Apple product. The supply arrived in a velvet bag, the cables are in a velcro-bound plastic bag. The manual is huge... it's a power supply and it's got a manual thicker than my motherboard manual.

If the power supply works half as well as the impression it makes when you unbox it, I'm in for a treat. 🙂

Please do not disrespect a Seasonic product.

🙂

I have 2 seasonic X series PSU's a 750 and a 560. Both are by far the quietest PSU I have ever used. Neither of the have any sort of coil squeal or anything. Voltages are rock solid

I just replaced an aging Antec NeoHE500 with a Seasonic X750 gold and am THRILLED to say it fixed all my coil whine issues. Prior to the upgrade using OSX was nearly impossible due to the pain inducing whine. Haven't had the chance to fire up any openGL apps to see if it fixed the noise they caused, but I am guessing it has.
