Recevied my drives today from buy.com, the one I got are made in Singapore and warranty until 5/31/2011.

As far as height is concern, they appears to be same size and height as my older 7200.7 drives.

TYPO FIXXD

Seagate must be confident that these will never fail

I ordered thru Buy.com Monday because I had a 10% coupon from May and because Buy.com is just down the road. I aniticipated delivery today. WRONG, it's coming from Silverstream, IL. and won't be here until next week, rakafraka...

Hey when you guys get your 7200.10's installed could you let us know how the noise level is compared to your previous Seagates?

Thanks 🙂

these guys talk about the noise on the 7200.10... seems disappointingly loud.
http://forums.storagereview.net/index.php?act=ST&f=2&t=22660

my drives:
2 x 200gb pata 7200.7 = super quiet even during seeks
2 x 80gb sata 7200.7 in raid = very audible seeks but i got used to it

is that just the nature of sata? i mean are the pata's also quieter than the sata's for the 400gb & 500gb 7200.8/.9? i think more of that noise would bug me and might sway me to get pata's since i only need it for storage. anyone know? i just don't have the opportunity to hear both.

Interesting thread. Some people's 7200.10's are noisy and some are quiet. I'm wondering which the drives from Buy.com and Provantage are.

Coincidentally, here is a post from that thread, maybe this pertains to the issue you noticed...

"That's interesting... Is your 7200.9 160GB an ATA version? Yes it is quiet, it's with AAM on. But all of my customers are complaining the SATA version to be a bit loud on seeking. Just sharp metallic sounds."

Not sure if he's correct, but maybe the regular ATA versions of Seagate drives have acoustic management enabled which makes them slower but quieter, while it is disabled on the SATA versions to give maximum performance but making them louder.

I placed my order on monday the 12th. Still waiting in their warehouse to be shipped.

They didn't hesistate to charge my credit card though!

Got mine from Page. One week from order to delivery. Drive, cable, shipping=$123. Not bad. Drive is same (physical) size as my original drive in my Dell 9100.

Installed, formatted and now putting my VHS tapes onto my computer. Drive can hold over 112 hours worth of video. So far drive is very quiet.
