Seagate 7200.10 320gb SATA available most places now...

The deal at Page is pretty much overruled by Buy.com and Provantage, who have these drives at just about $113 shipped in stock.

I expect these things to drop in price, though, as there seems to be a lot of competition

Provantage, $103 + shipping

Buy.com, $113, free shipping

This seems at least a decent deal for the new perpendicular recording drives, which may offer enhanced read/write speeds. This is aside from the facts that this is a Seagate 5-year warranty drive, SATA II, 16mb cache, 320GB, and in stock.

I've been following the drives for a while, and the only retailers that have had them in stock are selling them for $130 plus shipping and up. Of course, this $104 price may indicate that once they're readily available we'll see a price war, but... maybe not...

The link to the drive at PageComputers

And here's Anandtech's article on perpendicular recording drives (the 750gb version)

Sorry if I'd posted this to Cases/Cooling earlier, btw...

Dang, if this is a legit deal... I jumped too early on the 300GB $99 shipped deal from Outpost.

I bought the same drive from them a couple a weeks ago and it was not really in stock even though their web site said that it was in stock. They will charge your credit card right away. I finally was able to cancel the order a week later after I was told four times from four different representatives through the on-line live help that it was going to ship the next day. The credit back to my card was done within 4 business days. You have been warned.

That seems to be consistent with the bad reviews by other customers
so much for this deal 🙁

Doesn't look like the page computer I know of..

I order 20 sdlt tapes a month from page, each order is around 800 bucks, 0 problems

I bought my panasonic toughbook from them, in janurary, they had the lowest price, 1750 vs 2100 from all others..

I bought 2 wd 500gb re2 2 days ago with it coming 6/6/06. I have had 0 problems.

looks like many people gave bad ratings because they dont ship within 24 hours when ordered... too bad i dont care when it ships, as long as theres a tracking within 2-3 days..

I ordered my drives on Thursday afternoon and they have not shipped yet. I spoke with their online 'customer care', who informed me that it sometimes takes 24-48 hours to process an order, and I did not get a direct answer as to whether the item was actually in stock. Consistent with his post, they sure did bill my credit card quickly, though.

I was going to post this on Friday, but this post had made it to the 3rd page so I figured nobody would see or bump it, and so let it go.

I'll post as to whether or not my order ships on Monday, and if it doesn't I'll change the title.

My order shipped today as well... the other retailers have already lowered their prices, but this is still the best current price by about $10.

Imho, this will turn out to be Seagate's best drive ever.
2 platters - 188GB per...
Me too...if I hadn't just gotten the Outpost deal,
Aw, what the heck, might as well get a couple for a mirror.

Edited: Just checked the Egg - their price per drive shipped $125
Fluence's hot post at PageComputers shipped = about $110
Personally, I wouldn't spend the extra $30 at the Egg.

PS I may as well include the rant about the Egg:
A few days ago they had some blurb about their "new shipping deals" and how good they would be.
Looks to me like their new shipping deals have gone up about 20% across the board.

It's not an 'amazing' deal, but because it's the new perpendicular drive, it's a pretty nice deal. Add SATA II, 16MB cache, and the Seagate warranty and it's really sweet.
That 400gb was a PATA drive, which have been cheap for a while now. $99 for a 400gb PATA is actually somewhat expensive, I've seen 300s for $30 several times already.

Edited cause I misread the above post 😱

We're talking about the latest and greatest 7200.10 platter featuring perpendicular recording. Increased performance with less heat, less noise, etc.

The 400GB from fry's is a 7200.8. If you just want massive cheap storage, go with that. But if you want performance, with a decent amount of storage, this is an amazing deal, especially compared to what other vendors are selling this for.

Let me, reword, "good deal" and thanks OP, for others...don't take it as a threat or challenge when I say "amazing", and argue, "oh so you're saying this is the greatest thing ever in the whole wide world, period? I disagree"...lol..as stated, latest technology at a good price compared to other places.

OOS and slight price increase. When the first of you get these, can you post whether it was Retail or OEM? I generally do not care (assuming the same warranty), but I need the SATA cables too.

please tell me you forgot to edit your math too 😛

Like I said, I haven't been screwed by the page this year and I order about $800 dlt tapes a month.

I saved 30/drive off my wd re2.. lowest else where was 275 when I got mine.

One thing I have to say is page does play the number game.. when I was buying my panasonic toughbook, everyday it was a different price.. from 1750 to 2200. Avg price online was 2200... I watched it for 2 weeks and it finally hit 1750 and I bought it... the next day the price gone up again..

Better than the cuda IV? I loved those drives. It's $15 more at the egg, not $30. And the egg is the best place to buy, bar none. And I've bought them from all. ZZF is good, mwave, axiontech, monarch, I've bought from. Newegg took care of a problem I had last week, and when I asked for a rebate form that they took off the site (because it expired, my fault I didn't grab it first) they just credited the damn rebate to my debit card. What more can you ask for really? Well i've bought over $10,000 from them since 2000, but I'm not sure if they look at that stuff.

Newegg had the drive for $130+shipping when I originally posted, but lowered their price to $120 + shipping for a few hours, probably because they have internet access 🙂

Now it's irrelevant, as it's out of stock everywhere except CompuVest, which has them for $114 + shipping.

I'll let you know if they were retail or OEM when I get mine, chexi
