Hahaha, you were beaten by a 4 door sedan with a roof rack, a child seat in the back and 60k miles on the clock.

Come on, did you really think your 4 banger would beat the VQ35 in my Maxima?

I saw him coming on so I put the pedal down and left him in the dust. I only took it up to just a little over the posted speed limit and slowed down. He didn't try that again.

I was going to post something similar to this. It seems that almost everyone who drives a TC thinks they are race cars. They must be cheap enough that kids can afford them. 160hp, watch out!

All show no go? I've never driven one. I'm guessing my police cruiser could probably beat one out.

If I start to lose I can just ram them anyway.

Some dude tried the same thing with me on a brand new TC when I was out driving my G35. I even let him go first at the stoplight and still ended up beating him.

I know a couple people around here who drive them.. yeah they think that they are fast sports cars.
They might be somewhat fast if they weighed 1,000 lbs less.

Three or four kids in a Scion Xa pulled up next to me and tried to race me in my Sebring conv. WTF??? I actually sat there and watched him try to launch it, then grinned, and then took off.

That's what happened with me. He got on it immediately and I just wasn't going to have any of that. ;)

Funny, he had the wheels and fart can exhaust. All show and no go.

Always good to hear that someone with a child seat in their car feels the need to compare penis size with a teenager and put his and his family's lives in jeopardy. :disgust:

The image they have among the people who buy them does include the word sporty, no doubt about that. Think about it, from the Scion brand, you have 3 cars to pick from, the tC is the most sporty of them all. From a choice of 3 cars, they picked the "sporty" one. The salesman probably made sure they remembered that too.

Just based on specs, there is a difference of almost 600 pounds, not counting the extra things you had on your car, difference of just under 100HP, etc. (Torque difference is same #'s as well) If you have an automatic and he has a manual, he might get you on the launch if he knows how to use it properly, but once second gear comes in, it won't be a question. If he had the supercharger option on it or something, that would put him much closer and he'd have a chance. His car is much lighter, probably has shorter gearing meant for city driving, etc.

I thought you had an STi?

I'm not saying that he's got a fast car, but just that neither of these two cars is really anything crazy in terms of power and at this level, it can be hard to determine the winner. Your car's gearing is going to be a lot taller most likely and his will be shorter. If he's got the automatic, then he has no chance at all, but at least with a 5 speed manual, he can launch it decently and pray that his gearing is short enough to not lose by 50 car lengths.

Edit: Just for the record... I'm not even saying it's a close race, however that if he had the supercharger option, then he's got a real good shot thanks to the weight difference. Anyway, yes Jules, you'd have won :p

I was waiting for that. It so happens that I was in the car by myself. Besides, I have yet to drive a car that I couldn't handle in a 0-60 blast down a straight divided road with no side streets.

He specifically stated he went a bit over the speed limit. You're just assuming that he was being unsafe.

I used to. Got rid of it a while back...needed something my wife could drive occasionally.

And yes, the Maxima is an automatic. It's pretty quick but I've definitely owned faster cars and ones that handle and stop much better. It's basically a family hauler and I use it to drive to and from work when I'm not riding my bicycle.

Edit-The Maxima weighs 3200lbs. The Scion tC weighs 2900lbs.

What do you mean by "I saw him coming on". Do you mean he just didn't want to wait at the stop light? I've never raced anyone ever, but I do hit the gas the moment the light turns green if the intersection is clear. Predicting the green light doesn't mean you are trying to race. It doesn't mean you will accelerate fast, and it doesn't mean you will go over the speed limit.

Unless you had other reasons to expect it to be a race, it seems like you were the only racer (otherwise misspelled as "ricer" in this thread).

often the safest way to drive on a public street is by flooring the gas pedal the moment a light turns green, right?

as to him not having his kid in the car with him, the point was that he's got other responsibilities in his life that, for an adult, usually mean you're not concerned with flexing your testosterone in front of a teenager who wants to drag race.
