As I said above, I don't believe it's anything more than him trying to cover his bases after he realized how the conversation read. I'm simply describing how it will be used, verbatim, by the POTUS and his ilk, and bought by a large party of the population

Yes it will be quoted over and over again, out of context of course. But the evidence that Trump was linking the two is mounting. Just yesterday GOP Senator Ron Johnson told the WSJ that the same Gordon Sondland told him that Trump was linking the two. After which he went to Trump directly, and Trump denied it to him. But when he asked if they could tell the Ukrainians that the aid was on its way, he wouldn't allow it. That comes from a GOP Senator. And it makes what Sondland said in that tweet a lie.

Also, let's not lose sight of the phone call. Hey, when are we getting those missiles? Well, I need a favor though...

Except Rep. Sen Ron Johnson revealed that Sondland told him that Trump was withholding the aid to ensure the investigation. So, that text reads like an attempt at a false defense.
Sure does. Didn't have that information earlier.

NYT says there is a potential 2nd whistleblower on Ukraine.

I need a drink.

Seems to be an IRS whistle blower regarding either:

Mike Pence tax filing
Donald Trumps tax filing

Apparently the IRS has special people to handle the Presidents and VPs taxes.
Obviously it’s a problem with Pence taxes.

Not much has been confirmed at the moment so don’t get your hopes up.

This is nuts. Fox news is still talking about the whistleblower and Schiff. As if by discrediting the whistleblower all the texts and info that has come out the last few days disappears.

They're having trouble keeping up. That's a good thing. It's rare when the truth gets ahead of the GOP propaganda machine. Nobody is letting off, either.

Point of clarification. There is a second person who is considering filing a whistle blower complaint, so he wouldn't be a second whistle blower just yet. This individual is apparently one of the people interviewed by the IG when they investigated the original whistle blower complaint.

I really do hope whoever it is decides to come forward.

So do you have an idea what law this actually broke? This definitely seems like it should be very illegal, but I don't know what specific law other than campaign finance this breaks.

It's outright extortion of the Ukraine couched in the Mob Boss language of "Do me a favor" & support my bullshit conspiracy theory.

If there's a mutual agreement to sell policy for favors, it is no different in essence to a case where a politician takes a large campaign donation from say a special interest group then once in office conforms his policy to the group's desire. The only wrinkle of difference is that in this case it's a foreign actor.

So it's standard political corruption, which is deemed a fraud on the public. Sometimes called "honest services fraud" because the public is deprived of the honest services of the person they elected. Other statutes may also apply.

It isn't "extortion" as claimed by a few dems. Extortion requires a physical threat to a specific person.

Anyway, when you think about it, "fraud" fits here. It's really been the essence of Trump all along. It's what he fundamentally is.

I was looking for @woolfe9998 legal opinion as opposed to my lay person opinion. I'm glad there appears real laws, so he can't pull the same BS about collusion not being a crime.

Regarding the last 20-odd posts, another thing to remember is that an exchange of $thing for assistance with the 2020 election is not necessary for it to be illegal. It's illegal just asking. Not asking for an exchange, not asking and getting accepted. Just asking. Illegal. He's asked twice.

Looks like he did a whole lot more than that.
