Giuliani has lawyered up with Jon Sale, former assistant special prosecutor during Watergate.

gotta love it when lawyers have to get a lawyer.

It's just as well, though... given Giulani's incompetence, he'd probably get life in prison if he decided to represent himself.

Pompeo has now admitted to being on the Zelensky call after he lied to ABC about it. If I were a betting man a lot of info about what he's doing at State and that he's been lying to lots of people is soon to surface which is not likely to reflect well on him.

Not quite. He deflected, saying he hadn't seen the whistle blower report.

I figure he knows he's screwed.

I don't think they could use the DC Metro. The Capitol Police are a separate law enforcement branch, entirely controlled by Congress and distinct from the DC Metro Police

50% by House appointee and 50% by Senate appointee.
I believe their job is to essentially agree upon who the work gets sub’d out to.
House Controls the purse they could just hire contractors to help the Sergeant at Arms.

When the deflection implicitly asserts that he doesn't know anything about the call that's close enough to a lie. Especially when he turns around an goes all in on the conspiracy theory gibberish the president loves. This is not an honest person.

It seems that the House is done dancing with Pompeo and his talk.

Subpoenas planned for WH documents related to Ukraine

Pompeo now has little room. He can, of course, say anything he pleases and if he wants to buck subpoenas from a formal impeachment inquiry but he in effected got what he asked for, an official Constitutional demand.

It is possible although unlikely that Pompeo is relieved to be ordered to comply in this way as "I did what is required by the Constitution and legal precedent", and has a defense against "rolling over" accusations.

Hopefully he doesn’t run for the Senate in Kansas.

Conor Friedersdorf had an interesting piece on the Ukraine request and the potential liability for Ivanka, Don Jr., and Eric.

https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/ar...uption/599176/

I have to admit that I never thought my ethics were so situational, but if Republicans insist the Ukraine call was "perfect," I guess I look forward to President Warren/Biden using the awesome power of the Federal Government to pressure all our allies to find evidence of money laundering by the Trump Organization.

Psssst, they can start looking at the Trump Organization's Kazakh connections...

The call was “perfect” in the sense that there was no static on the line, it didn’t drop due to a poor connection, nobody missed a crucial statement because the other guy was going through a tunnel, that sort of thing.

When Trump talks, anything associated with himself is "perfect," just as a verbal tick he can't stop doing. If he walks down the hall, the carpeting is "magnificent"; if he turns on a light, the switch is the most amazing invention; if he takes a shit, the smell and toilet water is "perfect."

He can't stop himself from talking like this. It comes from a lifetime of talking like a snake oil salesman; it's deeply ingrained behavior.

Looks like part of the reason the IG wanted to meet with Congress is Pompeo asked if they could discipline anyone who cooperated with Congress in any investigation.

It's odd. He'll always deny doing something wrong, but this time it seems like he was also deluded into thinking the evidence would exonerate him when it did just the opposite. Either that or the usual people preventing him from doing something phenomenally stupid (moreso than usual) weren't there to keep him at bay.

The kicker is that the desire to see Trump impeached has been shooting up. Still a minority at 47 percent, but when it shoots up 10 percent in a week, Republicans have to be feeling nervous. If it tips to a majority (I'm not expecting a solid majority), I wonder how Republicans and Trump will react...

Probably not react much at all until it becomes a majority in their own states or districts. Which means it likely will have to be at least 55% nationally, probably a bit more than that.

The increase we've seen so far is likely the low hanging statistical fruit. It's people who already hated Trump but were iffy about impeachment because they agreed with Pelosi that it would be politically perilous for the dems next year. Now that Pelosi has started the process, there is no point in not getting behind it. That's what the uptick represents. It's pretty obvious when you consider that Trump's disapproval rating is around 52% that all these people who have changed their minds were already against Trump.

I doubt we'll see much more movement unless or until there's new information which makes this considerably more damning than it already is.

If that is accurate good lord, how dumb can these folks be? Pompeo is supposedly one of the smarter ones.

It's a bit striking that 90% of the people who disapprove of trump now think he should be impeached, if that's a true 1:1 corollary. I mean I'm not surprised given the state of things, it's just nuts to think of that. I figure even Nixon had a greater disparity between people who didn't like him and people who thought he should be impeached/indicted.

The briefing hasn't happened yet. Do you have a source on this?
Finally have a link I can use here. Took longer than I thought to be confirmed. Now on multiple reputable sources in the last hour.

Are any of these guys under any obligation to report this?

I have a feeling they are not but I’m no expert either.

I suppose yes if one considered their oath of office to be an obligation. I think the framers saw it that way.
