Schiff Issues Subpoena for Whistleblower Complaint Being Unlawfully Withheld

Haha. Another nothing burger by the Dems. Movement to the "super secret" server was normal operating procedure after previously leaked phone calls. The whistle blower guidelines were secretly changed just days before Trump-Ukraine whistle-blower filed their complaint because previous whistle blower complaints could not use second-hand information.
Others are covering the misuse of the codeword server. The bit about the supposed change in the updated whistleblower guidelines is wrong as well. See:

Yeah my nightmare scenario is if they get ordered deleted what is next?
I know the remedy is impeachment but with so few having access to what was on the recordings and the super secret status all the useful idiots will say he couldn’t release them because it’s top secret.

If someone orders them deleted exactly who gives that order will be recorded, it's part of the nature of the system where all access, additions, and deletions are heavily monitored.

Ironically, hiding those conversations on this server makes it more difficult to secretly dispose of them.

Sort of had the same thought since I’m sure it’s the best people and access is super restricted thus fewer fingers to point at.
Maybe an electronic Midnight Massacre.
One guy say no to delete, next guy says no, next guy says no. Now you’re out of people who are authorized to touch it. President then give clearance to some random dude to delete it.

If they are deleted, it is an obstruction charge for each file that is deleted. I believe this happened to the Enron assholes in response to their mass document shredding.

Yes, anyone deleting these conversations would be putting themselves in significant legal jeopardy.

Honestly I'm not even sure if deleting them would be that helpful to Trump unless they are just him and Vlad plotting a Russian takeover of the US (not impossible!). If he has them deleted people will correctly assume the worst.

I think you may be overly optimistic here. I think the more likely trajectory will be:

1) Congress: We're in an impeachment inquiry and are subpoenaing those conversations. Hand them over.

2) Executive: No.

3) Court battle ensues that takes the rest of Trump's first term.

I don't agree with the last because there is a precedent established with Nixon and it didn't take nearly the length of time to get documents from Nixon as the remainder of Trump's term.

If the SCOTUS orders the documents who is going to shoot the Court officers to protect it? You too took the Oath and so know what the prime responsibility, and that is to the Constitution. If Trump faces off against the Constitution defies the House impeachment proceedings and the SCOTUS? The server will be physically taken to a SCIF and no one will dare stand in the way.

It's also interesting that Trump is going with an argument of 'the contents of the whistleblower report are fake!' despite him literally releasing a document that confirmed it to be accurate.

I mean I know he lies about everything but sometimes I'm still shocked at just how brazen a liar he is.

He's mad in the vernacular. Under this level of stress, reality applies even less than usual and cause and effect, truth and fiction are constructs he cannot grasp any more than I can a 5D solid.

This has gone from a joke to a slim possibility

I think legal delaying tactics are a lot more sophisticated now and the executive branch considerably less interested in acting in good faith. I would love to be wrong but I think they will be able to drag things out in court for a long time.

Let’s face it, this White House is not known for their ability to plan anything, wouldn’t surprise me if they enlisted some 78 year old Briebert former data base guy, who has terminal cancer to do the work.
However that would likely put Sloppy Steve in danger so it likely wouldn’t start.

We'll likely see but the SCOTUS has a unique ability to call bullshit and cut to the chase where sophistry is concerned in such an important matter. In matters of critical import they have acted in days, but this time they need to get it right.

It's really great that we have to rely on Roberts now to prevent absolute bedlam. I wouldn't put a single penny down on Alito/Thomas/Gorsuch/Kavanaugh acting with integrity here.

I think Gorsuch would hang Trump out on a limb if it came down to it. He has consistently demonstrated a "constitution first" perspective whether we agree with perspective or not. Further, remember that when he was vulnerable to having his name withdrawn from nomination he called out Trump for his "mexican judge" bullshit.

I'm putting him in the "likely OK" category, but the rest? They are treacherous but a minority.

It’s a deep state conspiracy and the whistle blower is a “covert operative”.

As I’ve said before, that IG report can’t get here fast enough for Republicans. I’m sure the FOX pundits are frothing at the mouth and ready to convince their sheep that Trump’s crimes in office don’t matter, because the Deep State relied on flawed intelligence to get a FISA warrant on Carter Page.

Someone not from Fox News needs to explain to this jackass why using terms like "a thousand times worse" makes him sound like a liar and a fool.

Haha I seriously doubt Democrats are ‘panicking’ over an IG report. There’s no evidence the warrants were obtained improperly and the fact that they were repeatedly reauthorized shows they were bearing fruit.

Now I’m very sure that people on Fox and in right wing media will lie about this and say it shows something nefarious but they do that anyway - just look at the Biden nonsense.

In the latest in our ongoing educational demonstration entitled "how to be a dictator" Trump suggests that Schiff should be "arrested" for "treason" because he doesn't like how Schiff summarized his call with Zelensky. This is not a joke.

Yeah, to be clear, I am not saying Gorsuch will not show integrity, and I've even been pleasantly surprised by at least one Kavanaugh ruling. I just don't like the position we are in right now wrt SCOTUS, and that doesn't even include RBG hanging in there...

Someone should do an FOIO request on Trump's webpage history, I feel like the last few days would be 'who is schiff' and 'what is treason'.

I don’t even get what they are trying to imply. Obama spied on the Trump Campaign But was too inept to do anything?
Let’s assume that is correct, why can’t the justice department look into that while Congress looks into the Ukraine call?

This is an impeachable offense on its own. Were you here for the Great Scroll of Jerboy? If not it's still around somewhere. That poster had a complaint for everything just like Trump but there may be a scroll required for all the legitimate grounds for impeachment. Personally I think having an investigation of all of what Trump has done may take the rest of my natural life so I wouldn't do that, but perhaps the top 10 or 20 of the most serious things? Yeah, but stay far away from Mueller which is a dud in the popular mind because it was beaten by the Republican machine.

After all, an impeachment inquiry is not subject to DOJ review nor the Presidents.

Its all about throwing so much shit at the wall right now so the Ukraine call is drowned out. Great example from this morning where GOP Rep. Andy Harris wants to talk about everything around the Ukraine call except the actual call itself. Link is audio only.
