It's the luck thing that will have to fail them at some point. Your kicker isn't going to keep kicking 50+ yard field goals every time for a win. 99 times out of 100 Chicago wins that game yesterday because they don't do the bonehead moves they did. Eventually Denver is going to match up a team with a clicking offense and find themselves 30 points down that they can't claw their way back from.

It's got to end. We'll just keep looking in from the outside in enjoyment until it does.

It's odd to choose a word like "eventually", indicating they haven't matched up with a team like that when really they've been beaten many times this year. Even Denver Jesus himself is 6-1. That ONE was a big loss to Detroit. I know it was his first game of the season and all, but it's the only indication we have of how they play against a winning team. The defense has gotten better and the team is learning how to play together, but it's still a data point. People seem to consider it as an outlier when it needs to be remembered.

Much of the love for Tebow has nothing to do with his performance on the field, it's for the perception of him being a man of great faith. Much of the hate for Tebow has nothing to do with his performance on the field, but the perception of him being a man of great faith.

While they may have been true in the beginning for a lot of us, I think it IS his actual football performance and the amazing results its yielded that are mesmerizing most of us now.

At this point, I could care less about his faith. At this point, for me, it's just a convenient rhetorical hook on which to hang this incredible FOOTBALL run of his.

To see the Broncos do as well as they are is very entertaining.

100% agreed!

That's already happened with Detroit, but it didn't stop the train.

Tebow (Jesus) didn't win that last one. Their defense and kicker did. Funny that right after the game, all the commentators could talk about how great Tebow was, but he sucked that game.

The NFL's Palin.

You're wrong and here's why. If you listened to any of the Denver post game interviews, his teammates love him and he never takes credits for the wins. His God level charisma elevated his teammates to win for him. So even if he didn't toss the TD, he still won the game for Denver by proxy.

Can't expect the Broncos to do anything in the playoffs but still you have to be amazed by this run. It's unbelievable. Would be unfair to short them for what they do, (or don't do, rather) in the post season.

While the Pats D is incredibly low on talent, I don't think it's a good matchup for Denver. The Pats have been playing very conservatively on defense this year because of the lack of secondary talent, but that's exactly the kind of defense you need against Tebow. Teams have been over-pursuing him and getting burned by the option and play-action.

Also, at least early on, I think a lot of teams underestimated Tebow and the Broncos' ability to keep the game close until the end. You won't see that with New England. Apparently, Belichick LOVES Tebow. Before the draft, he took Tebow out do dinner to talk football.

On another note, I think Tebow's been great for the NFL, and hopefully we'll see some more option-style offenses next year. Teams that I think would be better with Denver's style of offense next year then what they have now:

Jets
Raiders
Chiefs
Ravens
Browns
Titans
Jaguars
Redskins
Seahawks
Vikings

All of these teams, when healthy, can keep a game close, but also have mistake-prone offenses that often hurt more than help. That's a third of the league. Would any of these teams be able to win a title with that offense? I'm not sure. Baltimore obviously has the best shot (though the clock is ticking on that D).

My guess is that we'll be lucky if three of these teams shift over, but it'd be great for football if they did.

I have to agree...I think that type of offense is the type of offense Belichick can tear apart with the correct defensive scheme, even with low talent. Also, Belichick is not stupid. He knows that if you are an NFL team, then you must have some talent or else you would not be there. And Belichick does like Tebow because he plays the game with a passion.

Belichick's dad used to run the single wing back in the 50s and 60s with the Naval Academy, so Bill probably knows the offense scheme very well.

yeah, just like how the Pats going 16-0 was ultra amazing  OH WAIT THEY LOST THE SUPERBOWL, IT DIDN'T MATTER, lol the greatest season that never was.

its all a crock unless you can at least make some noise in the post season

heck, even then its often not good enough. Look how often and QBs like Sanchez and Flacco have made it into the playoffs and even as far as the conference championship games, yet they are some of the most criticized QBs

Heck, Ben Roethlisberger was constantly criticized and underrated earlier in his career, and even after winning his second Superbowl.

Tebow's getting a free pass because people hated on him too much too soon, but unless the Broncos can start doing something consistently in the post season, the Tebow fever will go away as fast as it arrived.

Ladies and gentlemen, your Denver Broncos MVP:

marion-barber.jpg

In all honesty though, that was a team effort with a lot of luck thrown in. Making a 59 yard field goal is NOT easy. I don't have the exact stats but I think it's only about 50% past 50 yards. I guess it helps that they were in Denver, but still.

You still can't ignore Tebow's 4th quarter stats. Just unreal. Three completions (on 16 attempts) through the first three quarters, then breaks out and goes 18-24 in just the fourth quarter.

Hmm, team with the second best record in the league (and the highest strenght of victory). I think what they are doing now is working fine.

Don't let the Tebow offense fool you. They put Jay Cutler and Matt Forte into the Bears offense and they win that game. Lets recap the Tebow experience.

Take the Miami Dolphis to overtime. Win 18 - 15. Tebow played horribly, but managed to eek out a win in the end.

Get crushed by the Lions. Tebow played horribly.

Get the Raiders after RunDMC is injured and Carson Palmer with a week to learn a completely new offense. Tebow did okay in this game, not great, but okay. Put in RunDMC and that game wouldn't have been close.

Vs. the Chefs. Tyler Palko takes over. Tebow is 2/8. Really do I have to say that Tebow played horribly in this game?

Vs. the Jest. Tebow played barely palatable football (he was the best running back in the game). Mark Sanchez throws a pick 6 that wins the Broncos the game. Tebow should give Sanchez a thank you card for making him look better.

Vs. the Bolts. Tebow has ONE spectacular play in the fourth quarter. The rest of the game he was hot garbage. Good thing his defense bailed him out again. This was a field goal game except for the one great play to Decker, but I'll give Tebow the credit for the win on this one.

Vs. the Viqueens. Tebow is 10/15, but the game was won on the heels of McGehee. Taking the 2-12 Vikings to overtime to overtime is commendable and I can't say Tebow held the team back as he had in other games, so I'll give him credit for this one as well.

Vs. the Bears. Already covered. Put Cutler and Forte in and this game is a blowout. Prater, not Tebow, was the MVP of that game. 3/10 in three quarters isn't exactly an awe inspiring performance. Heck if certain running backs learn how to stay in bounds and not fumble the damn ball in overtime while in field goal range, this wouldn't even be an issue.

In all honesty, Orton would have easily won four of those games that Tebow is getting glory for (Dolphins, Raiders, Chiefs, Jets). I can't say the same for the Bears game because Orton probably would have thrown a pick six and the Vikings game was pretty high scoring so you can never tell. The Chargers game probably would have gone to the Chargers since Rivers wouldn't have magically fumbled the ball on a kneel down if Orton was in the game.

So with Orton as the QB, I could see them being 7-6 or 6-7 at this point. Does Tebow deserve credit for that? Probably. He doesn't turn the ball over often which can never be overlooked. Does he deserve all of the credit that he's getting? No. Should a winning offense (Ravens) change their current play style around to match the "pray the other team fucks up so that we can win" style of the Broncos? Hell no.

*shrug* I couldn't care less about Tim Tebow the man. I'm not really concerned about whether or not he's still in the NFL in five years. What I'm interested in is seeing NFL offenses and defences will change over the next few years in response to a system that is very obviously showing some success.

Hmm, team with the second best record in the league (and the highest strenght of victory). I think what they are doing now is working fine.

I did not mean to argue that any of the teams on that list were bad, merely that they would be better in a low-risk, low-reward spread option offense. Baltimore has one of the best defenses out there, one of the better running attacks, and a mediocre at best passing game. Why not, then, shift over to an offense that is favors your strengths and reduces your weaknesses?

Likely, though, Baltimore won't change over. They still think of Flacco as a franchise QB. Similarly, the Jets will stick with Sanchez for a few more years, even though he's really hurting the team.

Don't let the Tebow offense fool you. The put Jay Cutler and Matt Forte into the Bears offense and they win that game. Lets recap the Tebow experience.

I agree, but Kyle Orton (this season, at least) likely wouldn't have led them to victory, even against Hanie. Similar comments apply to your other descriptions. The question isn't "is Tim Tebow the second coming of Jim Thorpe?" but rather "are the Broncos a better team running a spread option under Tebow than a traditional pro offense under Orton?" I don't see how you can argue that they aren't.

I would say that Tebow, as compared with the whole NFL (and when you average over the whole games), is playing average. He's had a lot of sup-par stretches, but he hasn't been turning it over, which enables the team to stay close enough to win when he finally has some success. In a pro-style offense, when a QB struggles, there's usually turnovers. Average is a sizable improvement over where Orton was, and when you combine an very good defense with an average offense, you get an above-average team. Which is what the Broncos are right now.

The weakness of this style is that they can't come from behind a large deficit, but none of those teams I listed are really capable of that, anyway. The Ravens aren't going to come back from two touchdowns down against anybody but the Arizona Cardinals. That's not a diss on the Ravens, merely a reflection on how they design their team.

The difference is that Orton did not create the spark for the team to support him.

Tebow has.

Yeah, I saw that the other day and meant to post it here. :D

The lack of success the Colts are having, while partially reflective of Peyton's talent, is more due to poor planning. Having no safety net doesn't mean Peyton's better, it just means that the management is terrible. There's a segment from Jaworski's book:

As we watched, we were surpised to see Manning take virtually all the reps in the session. Jon asked Tom why he wasn't giving some snaps to Peyton's backups. Moore is a man of few words, but when he talks, those words have weight. He looked us both in the eye, paused for a moment, then said in that gravelly voice of his, "Fellas, if 18 goes down, we're fucked, and we don't practice fucked."
That, to me, tells me a lot more about why the Colts are going to go 0-16 while the Pats went 11-5 than anything else. The Colts never had any intention of a backup plan, while the Pats are always ready if a player goes down, even Brady.

On the other hand, you could argue that the strategy is brilliant in the long term. Lets say Manning went out, the Colts go 11-5, and he never plays again. You could argue that they would be in a worse position long term than if they went 0-16, as they wouldn't get those nice draft picks. This, in my opinion, is why I think they'll release Manning. This is their golden opportunity to really rebuild themselves for the next ten years. If they blow it, they could have a long drought, much like the post-Marino Dolphins.

Since taking over for the Broncos Tebow averages 10.7 completions on 22 attempts (48.5%) for 142 yards, 1.2TD, and .22 INT per game with a win % of 77.8%.

Since taking over for the Texans Yates averages 15.3 completions on 28 attempts (54.8%) for 186 yards, 1TD, and .33 INT per game with a win % of 100%.

Tebow was a 1st rounder who is now playing because the coach got him ready and put him in.
Yates was a 5th rounder who is now playing because the starter and backup were both injured.

Yet somehow Tebow is the big story here...
