LOL at how this thread turned out.

sodom and gomorrah was places!!!

Sodom and Gomorrah, according to the Old Testament, were two ancient cities in Palestine, near the Dead Sea which are said to have been destroyed... by brimstone and fires and an earthquake... because of the indecency and perverse sexual practices of their inhabitants.

God promised that he would save the city if He found ten righteous people there. God sent two angels there, they stayed with Lot, who provided food, water and shelter. The rest of the men there got all paranoid on who the angels were and demanded they be turned over to them. Lot did not comply and they tried to force their way in. The angels turned all the men blind. The angel warned Lot of the coming destruction of the city and told him to leave with his wife and two daughters. He and his family were warned not to look behind when they left to city, but Lot's wife did so and was instantly transformed in a salt pillar.

It has nothing to do with sodomy or sex or anything like that.

hahaha!!!

4 Before they had gone to bed, all the men from every part of the city of Sodom?both young and old?surrounded the house. 5 They called to Lot, "Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them."

Sounds like sodom-y to me

It has a lot to do with sodomy and sex. The cities were known for their perverse nature. Visitors were often raped, both heterosexually and homosexually. Lot was considered the 'weird' one because he didn't go along with it and everyone else thought it was 'ok' and 'natural' since 'everyone else was doing it.'

yes, you are correct. I said that in reply to someone above who asked what sodom and gomorrah was and someone else repled ... sodomy.

yes, you are correct.

And if you know the rest of the Story of Lot, you know that burning Soddom and Gommmorah to the ground didn't make a whole lot of difference. The daughters did what they believed they had to do, but still...

as for the OP: I agree with some of the other people here, in that it isn't *religion* I have a problem with; just some of the people who choose to follow it :|

As I've said before, the only problem I have with christianity is the christians.

Isn't that kinda true for everything? Of course it is, but that wouldn't be as much fun.

You mean the only problem with everything is the christians?

No, that the only problem with any group is the people that make up the group.

yes, you are correct.

I never said Sodom meant sodomy...

I only referred to it because knowing that the word sodomy is derived from 'Sodom' is the quickest way to sum up why the church is relating the Big Easy with Sodom and Gomorrah.

I was going to say, they weren't paranoid they were horny.

And I would have to agree that Vegas is more deserving of the title.

I really must go to Vegas one of these days.

Chill out people, its just some anit-christian photo-shopping.

😕 I never expected that I'd have to defend the validity of the sign, but here's 3 more pics I took yesterday for all you naysayers:

Although now that I think of it, I should've gotten them from different angles instead of sitting in my car. 😱 Surely there's other people in the area that can vouch for this, though. It's creating quite a stir around here.

It's not photochopped. I live in the same town.

Tyler, Texas is a very southern baptist town. I hate this place. I plan to move whenever I can. May'be up north. I hear they are more tolerant over all.

er, that line has been used before, new orleans, the sodom and gomorrah on the mississippi... a street car named desire... a play, also parodied on the simpsons. remember guys?

I guess the pastor, or whomever made the sign, saw the disaster in New Orleans as a opportunity to show their love for the animated show The Simpsons...lol.

I don't know what these people's problem is, but they are just out for shock value I am sure.
I'm sure they will be plopping a new sign up when California sinks after the big one.

the irony is if Hurricane Rita decides to visit beautiful Tyler Texas. What would they say then asshats!

Edit: darn, someone beat me to it!

Kanye West can say that "George Bush hates black people" on national TV, and idiot churches can post signs like these. That's why I love this country.
Not on the west coast, he can't.
(was edited for us, because west coasters are too fragile i guess)

If you look at the dates you can see that I resurected this thread just to point out this irony. Tyler Texas appears to be directly in the projected path of Rita after it hits the costal cities.

I always have a good laugh when these types of people look at the misfortunes of others and claim it's God's judgement for something. So what is it when the same misfortune befalls them? Let me guess, God is simply testing their faith. Bleh.
