dude your totally wrong...
take a small, light-weight displacement rotary, 4-banger, or 6-banger and spend a hella lot of money for NOS, turbo, supercharger, whatever and yeah, you can beat a stock V-8....
Now take that same money and spend the mods on the bigger block V-8. See who wins the drag races now. I don't care if it's Ford, Chevy, Dodge whatever (I'm a Toyota fanboy by the way) - Big blocks always rule on the drag strip. My friend has modded his 5.0 and it's all still normally aspriated and he gets 345 RWHP and 12's at the track. Yeah there's other factors too like power to weight ratio's, whether you can launch with all that torque, and stuff and I actually like the RX-7 over the mustang, but I guess my point is, when it comes for the most bang for the buck, get a V8.

I don't condone street racing, but
THERE'S NO REPLACMENT FOR DISPLACMENT! 5.0 V-8 > ROTARY
Yeah...the pure fact of the matter is that you are totally wrong. When you are talking about stock or slightly modified cars, turbos and superchargers can be more than enough to make up for displacement when you figure in weight. The mustang stock would have come with about 225 hp...compared to the possible 255 hp of the rotary engine. I am actually all for big V8's typically, but a 5.0 is definetely not a big V8 and doesn't crank out much in the way of power in this car. If that car was stock with only exhaust...it could make 260 at the most...which would still get beat by the 255 hp and lighter weight. The Mustang guy has a heavily modded car (but I agree no NOS) or the RX7 guy doesn't know how to drive at all. For anyone who thinks driving is not a factor because you are 'on a roll', you gotta be kidding me, it's huge...knowing your cars shiftpoints, it's torque curve, the speed of your shifts, how quickly you dump the clutch...if he did any one of those things wrong it could have easily lost him that race.
Z06 Vette > RX7 > Mustang
(Ford is how do you say it?...The suck)
