Beyond possibly deflecting thrown vodka bottles, what are these things supposed to accomplish?
It's to help everyone pretend that armor still works.
Because technically it still does....
But if you try to throw at a prepared and ARMED opponent... it's kind of a waste of lives and equipment.
Russia is trying to cope with their ill begotten use and lack of planning.

And UKR losses?
Don't see the point of that question. UKR is the one that has to rebuild. Not the Rusdogs. The fair thing now would be to move the Russian population to the decimated lands and let them rebuild it themselves and give their territory to Ukraine. Really the only fair thing to do. Plus reparations for a 100 years for the "inconvenience".

the cope cages showed up before the feb 2022 attack, without talking to actual ru personnel we wont know exactly when or why they thought it was something necessary.

but the theory among the pundits is that during the 2nd chechen war, the ru mechanized units took a lot of losses from rpg fired from overhead on multi-story buildings in urban areas. cope cages might help against a basic rpg, but does nothing against the dual charge warhead in a javelin. so it was wishful thinking at the start of the war.

nowadays a lot of armor is being disabled by mines, anti tank missiles, or artillery rockets. the crews abandon the vehicle and the ukr forces use smaller drones to drop bombs/thermite on to the top to permanently disable the vehicle if there is a chance of the russians recovering it. the cope cage could protect against those smaller drone tactics.

cheap loiter munition attacks on towed howitzers have also been defeated by basic netting. so the fact that they are factory installing the cope cages and netting indicates there may be a reason. it could just be there to protect the ir/thermal main gun sights from smaller incidental attacks and not intended to stop a javelin or gmlrs.

And UKR losses?
Probably very little. Seems that most of the attacking force was neutralised before they got anywhere near Ukrainian personnel. The Russians did use their airforce in the attack, so its possible that there are some losses from these attacks, but the Russians also lost one of the fighter jets in this attempted push by Russia.

I guess you could say that Russia tried to do a combined arms maneuver with air, arty, armour and infantry all involved. Remains to be seen if they learned anything from their failure.

Edit: so it seems some Ukrainian positions were overrun. The Russians advanced 2-3km on two axis. Remains to be seen if they have the personnel and gear to take advantage of their position, or if the Ukrainians can push them out.

Top attack drones dropping grenades into hatches is how the AFU usually finishes off disabled Russian equipment. Often to do the actual disabling they drop mortar rounds on top of the engine compartment or fly an FPV drone carrying an RPG-7 round into the compartment. Maybe this cage could make it slightly harder for the Ukrainians to finish off the tanks but that also assumes the driver hatch is not left open or that drone operators aren't skilled enough to get inside anyway. Mostly I think it's going to get even more Russian crews dead since they now can't easily escape their burning vehicle.

A trio of big girls off the Ukrainian ports visible. All in the 70-80,000 DWT range. At least two more similar ships inbound from the south too.

This is the class of ship they need to really move the amount of grain out they produce. It's hard to tell how many are coming and going since they often turn their transponders off so can't get a handle on the overall export volume. Likely in the millions of tons per month now though.

No one gives a shit about Ukraine anymore bud. They’re done.
lol - the cope is so hard here, haha.

Really though, you are a lover of peace, right? Gotta make you happy to see so many aggressors die because that means fewer Russians for aggression elsewhere and we certainly don’t want that degenerate culture spreading.

By the way, have you been able to find anything bad about Russia yet? Their leadership in particular? I don’t know why you avoid this question as it should be easy to answer.

And here I thought (irt the copes) the Russkies just wanted some shade for their rides. From a practical point of view, it's about as useful as those things are going to get given what the AFU can bring to bear.

More videos coming out of the Russian assault on Avdiivka. It is...not going well for them. Staggering losses of equipment and manpower.

Looks like the assault on Soledar last year but much larger.

Funny I remember hearing the same thing back were Russians was going after Bahkmut. We all know who won that battle.

This one will be no different.

You’re right. Russia will sacrifice tens of thousands more of their own boys as cannon fodder to capture another useless pile of rubble.

That’s winning, right?

I also find it interesting that you are trying to suggest the battle of Bakhmut is over, when Russians are still frequently getting vaporized there. It was worth it though, right?

You have to love it. Every dead orc is one less orc that can attack somewhere else.

I like how they used two layers of 2mm sheet metal roofing there. Because things have to be sturdy for war, right? lol checkmate NLAWS and Javelin, get fucked arty round

Seriously though, yikes on being in that heap when it takes a good hit. You luck out and survive the initial explosion. Extricating yourself somehow from the twisted interior, you emerge from the turret only to get held up by the mangled, charred remains of that copium cage.

Someone's stickin around for the cook off and turret toss.

Edit; yeah you were thinking that too ha
