The G-7 nations pledged to phase out their dependence on Russian energy, on a timetable that allow the world to find alternative energy sources.

The longer the war goes the farther the world reels away from Russian energy supplies. Japan is going to restart its dormant reactor fleet. Europe will drill for more gas and import from the Middle East and US. Massive expansions of renewable power and storage. Hydrogen. Etc.

And "just sell to China" as a lot of problems on its own with their econ in tatters due to COVID zero and limited infrastructure links.

The only major proclamation he could make is that he's stepping down or aside.

There are still some potential curve balls:
  • "Special operation" to liberate Transnistria
  • Kherson People's Republic
  • Formal annexation of DPR and LPR
  • Republika Sprska announces independence (or union with Russia), kicking off war in Bosnia
  • Belarus joins the war
Keep escalating, spread chaos, knock the West off kilter, make people confused and unsure what the hell is happening.

The fake government they're trying to set up in Kherson seems to tip the hand. Likely to declare the south de-nazified and thus they are victorious. Maybe there will be some limited call up in order to garrison the territory they've taken.

I think they've bit off too much though and they'd need the Ukrainians to agree to call off the war and give up that land for it to work. Which I don't see happening at all.

BREAKING: after seeing the publicity FLOTUS and Justin Trudeau generated for their surprise visit to Ukraine, Donald Trump tries to do the same - but winds up instead at the U-Crane rental facility in Toledo, Ohio.

Well, of course Zelenskyy would have no interest in seeing Trump again, the guy who refused to shake the hand of Nancy Pelosi, who shook Zelenskyy's hand just the other day. America's worst traitor ever is for sure persona non grata in Ukraine and very rightly so.

These are something, in particular the first, an amazing at length account of the experience of a Canadian fighting in the trenches, etc. that's graphic, clear, harrowing and is clearly absent hyperbole.
came across a sort of follow up. (ignore video title. cnn interviewed the canadian and his 2 american squadmates. vid queued to relevant.)
they started in the north and were later moved to the eastern front. the lack of urban structures or forrests meant they were walking into established afv lines. the flat as iowa farmlands of the east isnt where manpat does well, so armor still has a purpose. the canadian interview vid was recorded a week or two ago so hopefully the artillery pieces have arrived in the east. the 2 americans are going back to the fight, the canadian found out that he was going to be a father and went back home.

Will Silly Putty be Sadated?

I'm guessing the parade kids won't have bullets though.
Never know, given their losses in Ukraine, they might be planning to march them straight to the train station for deployment after the parade... well, maybe not the lead T-34 and the nuclear missiles, but most of the rest of the kit could go...

They're just going to annex Kherson.

Russia’s RIA news agency is carrying some quotes from Kirill Stremousov, who they describe as deputy chairman of the military-civilian administration in Kherson. They report he said:

"We are not planning to hold a referendum and create a republic. Today, based on the opportunities we have, we will integrate as much as possible into the Russian Federation."

Kherson region is to the north of Crimea, which Russia annexed after its 2014 invasion.

Doesn't seem like Putin said much of anything in his speech that indicates any change in plans for current military operations.

No Air Force showing off and markedly less numbers of troops and equipment in the parade itself. Sort of an inadvertent admission the Russian military is quite stretched and far less powerful than they led everybody to believe.

Does not surprise me. Good to hear. Hope it portends the imminent wind down of the war and the cessation of Russia's imperialism forever.

Honestly, I think the man is sick.
