Time delays in reporting accounting for the different current status? Maybe it floated for a while, but no longer is and reporting hasn't caught up?

Pentagon says she’s moving under her own power.

"We assess that the ship is able to make its own way, and it is doing that; it's heading more towards, now, we think the east. We think it's probably going to be putting in at Sevastapol for repairs," he added. Pentagon Press Secretary

This is baffling to me - how would you have a fire and explosion bad enough that you had to abandon ship, but still have the ship be seaworthy and able to sail under its own power? If this is true it sounds like more total incompetence in the Russian armed forces.

Any which way they look at it, that ship will not be a factor and will be in drydock for at least a year, with sanctions it will be even longer i suspect

I bet that will not happen. No drydock, no repairs; she's done. They simply do not have the means, and they probably won't even be able to cannibalize the hull for parts to keep the other two Slavas running.

The fourth Slava has been sitting around unable to be finished for decades, and the class itself has already been replaced by something else they can't afford, the Lider class missile destroyers. At this point all Russia can try to save is a little face.

We’ll get some imagery in the next day or so to see what’s what. Regardless that ship is out of the fight either way.

Damage may have been all on deck, or just below and not affected the engine or propulsion systems.

The USS Hornet was badly damaged but still able to sail and tried to get to safe waters before being hit again.

I am starting to think everything this game taught me over the decades is incorrect

I have the original Naval War based on WWII naval battles, and it is one of my all time favorite beer and pretzels game.

That's not correct - Hornet never restored propulsion and was in the process of being towed when it was hit again. More important to my point though, Hornet's crew was still on board and working on repairs and damage control up until the point of the fatal hit, at which point they abandoned ship and she was sunk.

My confusion here is the incongruity between abandoning ship and a ship that can still sail under its own power. You only abandon ship once all hope is lost, or at least that's what competent crews do.

So if correctly interpreted, the Tass propaganda piece should be read as "The two remaining crew members consisting of the fleet commander and his valet were fully evacuated".

You know where that 4th Slava was being built and is currently rusting? Ukraine (Mykolaiv)
