Now we're talkin and about time. Kyiv has been more than patient, EU has had time to adjust. May Putin's revenue streams continue to mimic the health of his generals.

100% sanction on Russian gas molecules

"Ukraine will stop transiting Russian gas through its territory from 7 am on 1 January 2025, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said during the government question hour in parliament, Interfax-Ukraine reports." Open to other sources still, which makes me hope they aren't turning a blind eye to resale by intermediaries.

I'm usually not one for New Years resolutions but in this case, yeah, cool. As long as it makes life harder and more expensive for Putin and also Orban, I'm all for it.

IMF just approved a $1.1billion disbursement for the ongoing loan program to Ukraine, should be available soon and will be enormously helpful. I hope they set about making some large underground civilian hospitals. Russia will never stop targeting the ones it can reach.

Also in that article:

"Ukraine’s central bank said on Friday it would ease some of its wartime currency controls to simplify nuclear fuel purchases and coupon payments on corporate Eurobonds and reduce jewellery imports. The central bank has been gradually softening its restrictions on capital outflows and tight foreign exchange measures imposed after Russia launched its invasion in February 2022.
It said in a statement it would expand permissions to buy hard currency for nuclear fuel purchases. Ukraine faces a severe energy crisis after Russia intensified bombardments of its power infrastructure, damaging thermal and hydropower generation. Now the country relies on nuclear power stations for more than half of its energy needs. The central bank said it would also ease its restrictions on purchases and sales of precious metals, aiming to support domestic producers and reduce imports of jewellery products."

While the article is written by a jackass who values money over human lives, the implication of this is astounding. Entering a phase of humanity where battles and potentially eventually wars can be fought entirely remotely. Lots of positive and negative implications for this, as always.

Generally the EU is fine, they secured alternate supplies and the storages are 95% full. This has come at somewhat increased costs but Russian claims that the EU would freeze without them were totally false. The few countries that still have gas agreements that are friendly to Moscow are complaining but nobody cares.

Yeah thanks to LNG, Norway and Libya. Good hustle. Definitely a far cry from 2022, but Austria's deal with Russia until 2040 irks me. It's a beefy cancellation fee (a billion I think) and that money getting to Putin would also suck. I hope they can figure something out, the strangling of Russian income must continue.

It pleases me to see nobody giving a shit about Orban though. Fuck that guy.

Elon Musk backs German far-right party that supports Putin

Vlad the Butcher and Russia's glorious human rights record are apparently right up his alley.
Hmmm... So Germany is in the process of *really* building up its military capacities for the first time since WW2.

Mmmmm. Ok then.

And now Musk wanna take the shortcut to direct fascism in Germany too?

Well. Alrighty then.

Are we sure we're doing this "thinking" concept correctly?

If the Russians cannot make delivery then I presume Austria doesn't have to pay anything.

Seems like 2025 will be the year where Russia grinds to a halt.
If not the Orange swoops in and saves the day... To think we were one American election away from the end of Russia...

A Chinese ship, reportedly operated by Russians, leaves a Russian port and then immediately destroys critical European / NATO infrastructure MULTIPLE TIMES and all Europe does is detain the ship for a month, before letting it sail away scott free? WTF? Is Europe trying to lose the war? Showing weakness to the Eastern Bloc is gaurenteed to invite challenge. In the form of your people dying more than they already are.

We appear to be living in the age of Chamberlain. Who declared peace in our time as Nazi Germany began its genocidal march across Europe.

The ship is an enemy combatant. Seize it or destroy it.

Sweden says China denied request for prosecutors to board ship linked to severed cables

Foreign minister says China denied request for prosecutor to investigate onboard Yi Peng 3, which sailed over cables
The Yi Peng 3 left the waters it had been anchored in since last month on Saturday – despite an ongoing investigation.

Stay the course, Putin is on track heading Russia over the cliff in 2025, the war is not sustainable. Dont be a sucker for lame ass feints. Was the cables not immediately fixed? Dont. Take. The. Bait. Just increase weapon shipments to Ukraine... And maybe some boots. Keep the line.

I say go weapons hot on everything Russian outside Russia's borders.

You want to convince me that's a bad idea, I point to the Ukrainians. They are the ones holding the line. Bleeding and dying.
Europe's bread basket is dying and what remains is falling into enemy hands.

You want to lose a war, that is a great way to start. This promise of Russia's failure has been ongoing since 2022. I am still waiting, Ukrainians are still dying. No moral people would accept that. No common sense would say to cede that land. Its value is too great. A secure future is being lost, whittled away piece by piece. We have the power to push back the invaders, to end the war. What good is it if we do not use it?

We are far too passive in the face of evil.

And European countries isnt doing diddley squat if NATO is not on board. The US is not on board. Suppose Trump pulled you guys out of NATO, then perhaps I think the calculus would change. On the other hand, without the aide from the US Ukraine would probably be over by now. So. Who do you want to do what?

edit: The way I imagine this is playing out is that you put the pressure on Putin just enough for his efforts to be unsustainable but not enough for him to sell an all out total war on the home front, general mobilization, chems, bios, nukes all of it.
We bleed him dry until he drowns in his own piss. And while Ukraine bears the heavy load here, and it sucks, you still have to maintain that balance for optimal outcome (no nuclear winter).

That was me playing Devils Advocate.

I agree. Blow them the fuck up.

When are we going to defend our undersea cables? Russia needs to start receiving steep costs for acts of sabotage Make Putin lose a sub or three, let him think about it.

C'mon Denmark. There really needs to be fewer Russian vessels operating around NATO countries, closing the strait would help. It's just a matter of time before everyone starts experiencing faulty Russian oil ships sinking off their coasts. Putin will inflict painful retribution however he can, if we let him.
