This is the third time in 14 years they've used the Olympics as cover for the start of a war. Kick them out until Putin is gone.

no no no... they compete under the "ROC" flag!! /s
So stupid. But IOC wants that money.

"Theory"
If Putin wasn't an asshole, he could have taken the sure and steady approach. Manipulating Ukrainian politics to insure Russia friendly policies and insure that from an economic and business standpoint Russia investments in Ukraine are mutually beneficial enough where Ukraine population look towards Russia as an ally. Slow and steady and milk that cash cow while all of Europe become completely hooked on Russia\Ukrainian gas and resources. Partner with European companies to revamp Russian industry and try and diversify their economy. Start small like a few factories hear and there. No need to do stupid shit like invade Crimea. Just keep pouring fertilizer on that who shitty Union state concept they have with (forget the official name of the org that Russia, Belarus Kazakhstan and the rest have.
You can still get away with all the shitty Putin\dictator bullshit but do it smart you can sucker Europe and the US to bank roll the whole operation. Unfortunately that takes time.

Rumor of Putin (Who is turning 70 this year) having Parkinsons and other health issues have been going on for a couple of years now.

Putin might be doing all this nonsense to cement his legacy before he gets booted naturally. Rushing Russians do stupid things

(crosses fingers that Putin dies of natural causes soon)

What the hell happened over at Fox? Suddenly, they are actually dumping on Putin, praising Ukraine, cheering the Biden sanctions, and acting like a news organization should act. Have they lost their mind? This is not like Fox, not at all. Mommy, they're scaring me.

At some point someone there had to look up and see the only countries standing with them were Russia and Belarus and decided that's not really a winning hand.

I assume they do not want to be mistaken for Russians and sent a Turkish drone for Christmas.

I'm with you. Feels like Putin's folly is making some people get a little too cowboy here. I think they're already pushing it with a NATO AWACS they sent over Ukraine.

Say Russia shoots that down, killing 20-30 NATO crew members? Now what? Drones can't compete with the view of an AWACs, but they could still help give Ukrainians recon and warning.
We're there AWACS actually in Ukrainian airspace? Not just the border areas?

Edited: nevermind saw he response to others.

Honestly, what has me worried about the state of affairs vis a vis the Russian invasion of Ukraine RIGHT NOW is CAN or FOR HOW LONG CAN Kiev withstand Putin's effort to take over the capital. Those fighter jets, seems to me, could be super helpful at this moment as roads are full of heavy Russian equipment bearing down on Kiev. Fighter/bomber attacks on those convoys could be instrumental in saving the city. That's not talking about Putin's threat to unleash devastation such as has never been seen (he's vying for poster child for biggest asshole/thug so far of the 21st Century). Absent him destroying his as Russia's reputation completely by obliterating Kiev with thermobaric or nuclear weapon(s), stopping those convoys could be pivotal, seems to me.

Those pledged fighter jets, that will take a while. The siege of Kiev is happening right now.
That was my first thought when I heard that they were going to get fighters. Wipe out the convoy!

Russia can no longer pay them to talk them up since Russia's banks are being cut off.. no money, no positive support.. That's what happens when you are a tabloid news outlet for hire.

With the peace talks, what can thy agree to? I can't imagine Ukraine settling for anything but Russia pulling forces back to where they were last week. What would they be willing to give to Russia to ensure Russia can at least sell it as a win at home? Give them Crimea?

You know you fucked up when even the Swiss pick sides
Switzerland has announced that it will forego its commitment to “Swiss neutrality” in favor of adopting sanctions against Russia, Swiss Federal President Ignazio Cassis said Monday, adding that Switzerland’s sanctions will be in line with those already adopted by the European Union.

“The Swiss Federal Council has decided today to fully adopt EU sanctions,” Cassis said during a news briefing. “It is an unparalleled action of Switzerland, who has always stayed neutral before.”
“Russia's attack is an attack on freedom, an attack on democracy, an attack on the civil population, and an attack on the institutions of a free country. This cannot be accepted regarding international law, this cannot be accepted politically, and this cannot be accepted morally,” Cassis added.

CNN flashed a video clip of Putin sitting there, then flashed a clip of Russian generals (I presume) sitting near by, and those generals did not look at all happy. In fact, they were looking quite smug. Then it hit me, is that the look of a coup? With Putin acting so... so... Donald Trump-ish, and with beloved Putin now pissing off his own Russian people so much where they have taken to the streets in protest, it makes me wonder if those generals are maybe planning something? If I were Putin, and my generals with the guns were looking at me that way, I'd be worried.
Putin should be worried when he talks of nukes and when Russian ATM's stop working all while his generals are giving Putin "that look". Just maybe, for the sake of the union and for the survival of the union, just maybe for Putin to start talking nukes crossed the line even for Putin's generals. Maybe the generals are starting to believe that Putin is off his rocker and must be stopped.
Now, wouldn't THAT be a pleasant and welcome surprise? And, the solution to all of this.

Are generals supposed to look happy when their troops in battle (and losing troops and equipment to an under powered opponent)?

You and your little bitch buddies in Belarus can go back to running your gangster states. That’s the offer. Or continue to bleed here.
