I know that if I was given a choice between having my country run by the Russian gangsters that rule it now or a coalition of European countries I would pick the coalition of European countries without hesitation. Surely Russian citizens see that the standard of living in the West is so much better than the one given to them by Putin?!

The most likely explanation is that Ukraine developed long range strike drones as they promised and has begun to use them against the Russians. This is probably just the beginning. Given the mass attacks on Ukrainian cities the last few days nobody in the west is going to say anything like Ukraine should not retaliate so it’s open season for Budanov. Ukraine’s capabilities in this area are only going to grow.

Reportedly the US is going to provide AIM-7s in the next arms package but the platform for them is unspecified. While older and less sophisticated there is a large amount of these missiles that have to be closing in on disposal age so cost is minimal. Could be Mig-29s or the Buk I guess.

Presuming those can target Iran's flying mopeds, may be a very good use of inventory. Otherwise not too sure how much a medium range air-to-air missile is of use to Ukraine, they have basically zero air-to-air fights with Russian aircraft.

Close to disposal age: that's why these dollar amount aid packages are always a little sketchy when reported in the media. This equipment was already paid for years ago, and now the choice was either pay to refurbish/dispose or give it to Ukraine.
