He, he go to a download section and make sure to get the thing AND the "xcom1fix.exe" fix. Unzip the "thing" to let just say C:\Xcom or C:\UFO and then put the "xcom1fix.exe" fix to that directory as well, run the fix executable instead of the regular executable, and enjoy the game!
Just selected my level of difficulty, my first base has been just selected in North America.....Base1
Seems to work with NTFS!!!

Edit: The creator of this site deserves a paypal donation!!!

Edit: Make sure to run it with fix not with the regular executable!
Works fine with my P IV 2.52 Radeon 8500 and SB Live 5.1!!!

Does it actually run at proper speed? I have the DOS versions of the originals and they run WAY too fast even on a P-150. Yes, I'm to lazy to use one of those SloMo programs. ;)

Dude!
First unzip the original content!!!!!!!!
So unzip the "thing" to folder called UFO on your C hdd, then once uzipped go to directory with the game, AND THEN APPLY THE PATCH.
But you have to uzip, install the "thing" content first.

Edit: I am going away for few hours, but keep bumpin...

The only ones that come to mind right now are MoSlo and CPUKiller. I know there's more though. I'm not sure if either of these work in windows.

Yeah!
The reason I am so excited is that... it was so difficult to configure the original release (for DOS) to work propertly in Windows 95.. I swear, one time it took me like a day to configure it propertly, I mean the Config.sys and Autoexec.bat pain in the arse......
Good old days, like 95, 96.....My 486 DX "Amiga Killa" with 16Mb of Ram and 100 Mb of Hdd............
Edit: Visit the original site for some extra info, strategy guides, stories, and editors.
For the younger Anandtech readers, the game looks and sounds bad, but the gameplay is higly addictive, give it a shot!

I have the DOS version running great on my P150 Thinkpad and Win98. It has the sound and MIDI and everything! :)

It's a bit fast though. The time really flies in more ways than one!

I still have it for the original Playstation, too. I first played this game on my friends PSX. I went on vacation from work and we played X-COM the whole time. :D

Argh!!!! It won't let me build any facilities at my base!

It worked when I first started the game, but now it jsut doesn't show the option to build, jsut a "cancel" button.

ARGH!

My mirror should still work...?
Also it sometimes crashes when in combat, but it is still playable... The game crashes once every 30 minutes when in combat... so save your games very, very often!!!

Edit: My mirror, with "thing1" is still up!
Edit2: It seems to work for me just fine, but I will try to contact the author of the fix for more help!
Lets call it and AT UFO project

Edit3: My scientists just researched a Laser Rifle, I am on January 24 99 right now, he he lets go back in time!
