What's the verdict on all of the issues people are having with Navi? Seems like everywhere you look people are reporting issues in games and sending their cards back...

Radeon VII had a similar issue so it makes me wonder if AMD jumped the gun on 7nm slightly or if there's just a lot of bad luck and people not knowing how to properly troubleshoot. That, of course, brings to the surface the point that an expensive graphics card should work out of the box and require next to no tinkering. While I am a firm believer in that regard, I do understand that today's GPU's are far more complicated than those of the past 20 years.

Grabbed another Vega because I'm obsessed with how much water cooling helps the darn things.

What issues?
Reference cards or AIBs?

There are quite the number of reports with 5700 series cards either performing poorly or cutting out video (especially in UE games). I would assume most are with reference models, though I feel AIB versions aren't entirely exempt from exhibiting similar symptoms.

I almost want to buy one just to see if it's all warranted; to try out GDDR6...

All new architectures have initial bugs. Look at Ryzen 2 and the Linux random number generator issue. That's made worse by the motherboard manufacturers being slow to release new firmware with the fix implemented. If I had to be honest it would seem that AMD has more but that's not surprising as it has had less money for programmers to fix them as quickly as Nvidia, but Nvidia still has bugs.

Unless AMD puts something better on the table at the $200-$250 price point I'll be getting a GTX 1660 Super come Black Friday.

Same here. I hate not having an RX 5600 series card here to buy, and I'm not willing to jump to $350+ for cards that don't seem to have the performance to age nearly as well as my GTX 970 did when I spent that in 2014.

Doing both CPUs and GPUs is hard, and it's apparent that if something has to give at AMD, it's GPUs.

Wonder if AMD will go the same route as NV and try to fab their low(er) ASP/performance products at Samsung while keeping the high margin, tight tolerance stuff at TSMC...

According to Steve Burke over at Gamers Nexus, apparently AMD can’t keep the 5700 on the shelves as 1) it is really popular and 2) AMD can’t get enough chips from TSMC. If number 2 is true it just adds weight to the idea that AMD hasn’t launched the retail 5500 series because of a lack of chips.

On a side note he mentioned Nvidia is bringing back the RTX 2070 Vanilla to combat the Rx 5700. Apparently the RTX 2060 Super just isn’t cutting it in that role. Not sure how true that is but Steve generally doesn’t comment on totally baseless rumors.

i see a lot of availability at msrp, so it doesn't look like reality

That doesn't mean they aren't selling well. In order for retailers to price gouge, there has to be a market willing to pay the high prices. And that tends to only be miners.

AMD hasn't specified a retail release date but given that the 1650 Super's release date is November 22nd I'm guessing it's right around then.

It means their's no shortage in this country, other countries could have bare shelves. Also the online retailers here may have just gotten in a shipment and been able to restock. You have to watch availability for a week or so to tell.

Having said that I've kinda been keeping an eye on 5700 prices and I have seen plenty of 5700's with reference coolers but haven't seen a lot of cards with custom coolers, although I really wasn't looking for those cards either and may have just missed them.

Believe me, Italy has a long history of inflated prices for AMD cards. If they can stock stuff with no problem it means there is no shortage anywhere. This doesn't mean it doesn't sell well tho, they might have increased volumes this time, and actually I believe so.

(I just bought an XFX RX 5700 DD for 349€)
