Romney stayed longer at Bain

No Lifer
Firm’s 2002 filings identify him as CEO, though he said he left in 1999

http://www.boston.com/news/politics...nued_at_bain_after_date_when_he_says_he_left/

Romney has said he left Bain in 1999 to lead the winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, ending his role in the company. But public Securities and Exchange Commission documents filed later by Bain Capital state he remained the firm’s “sole stockholder, chairman of the board, chief executive officer, and president.”

Also, a Massachusetts financial disclosure form Romney filed in 2003 states that he still owned 100 percent of Bain Capital in 2002. And Romney’s state financial disclosure forms indicate he earned at least $100,000 as a Bain “executive” in 2001 and 2002, separate from investment earnings.

Mittens has some splainings to do.

It seems to only matter to people when the other guy lies. When their guy lies it is easily explainable.
It only seems that way because you aren't capable of realizing that there is a difference between not delivering on promises and lying about actual facts.

I think of the above every time I hear about this

Strange how you see a difference. A lie is a lie.
Uncle Matt: 'Johnny, what are you going to be when you grow up?'
John: 'I'm going to be an astronaut!'
30 years later...John works as an engineer.
Uncle Matt: 'Johnny is a fucking liar!'

Uncle Matt: 'Bob, do you have my wallet?'
Bob: 'No Uncle Matt, I would never steal your wallet!'
Matt searches Bob and finds his wallet...
Bob: 'Sorry I lied.'
Uncle Matt: 'It's okay Bob, your brother lied about becoming an astronaut so I can't expect better of you.'

Growing up to be an astronaut? Hah...

Wright was more like sitting through many years of hateful racist rhetoric, nodding your head, and then once your caught you say 'that's not the man I knew!".

I was talking about campain promises...

It really must suck to live in your world dank, someone promising you something and then breaking that promise is no big deal. They both suck. To lie about a fact and to lie about what you're going to do is no better. You must have had a lot of promises broken when you were growing up. 🙁

look at all the happy people diverting from the OP!

edit: It's fine to say all politicians lie

but now I want to know, why does Romney lie about his past with Bain?

It shouldn't be construed that I think all promises are worthless. Campain promises, on the other hand, should be taken with a grain of salt. These are things that the candidates want to do in an ideal world, but once they get to the show, they quickly realize that it isn't so easy to do whatever they want.

If I promise to call you tomorrow and then I decide not to, I am a liar. If I promise to not let lobyists work for my administration, then I do, I am a liar. If I oppose gay marriage, then I support it, I am a liar. If I promise to cut the deficit by the end of my first term and then I don't, I am a liar. If I promise to be the most transparent administration in a long time and then I don't, I am a liar. If I promise and promise and promise to not raise taxes on working families and then I do, I am a liar. If I promise to withdrawl troops out of Iraq in 2009 and then I don't, I am a liar. If I promise to end earmarks and then pass a budget with record earmarks, I am a liar. If I promise to close Gitmo and then I don't, I am a liar. If I promise to cut the deficit in half by the end of my first term and then I don't, I am a liar.

If I explain every lie that my party makes as not a lie, I am a liar.

In other words lieing on the campaign trail is fine with you. You need to get one thing straight with campaign promises(lies). They wouldnt be enacted in a perfect world either. They are given to secure votes.

No, it's not fine. Romney running on a platform of 'I will repeal the ACA' is not a lie. He really wants to do it. He probably won't be able to do it.

If I promise to meet you tomorrow, and then I am kidnapped before I get to meet you, am I now a liar? Use your brains people. Think about the logistics and realize there is a difference between what people want to do and what they can do. Or just continue on with your blind generalizations and lump everything into the same category. It's easier for your simple minds to grasp that way.

I would say if he honestly attempts to fulfill his promises but Congress prevents it (via a Veto override), then he is not a liar. If he made a promise out of ignorance and later finds out it was a bad promise to make - he should come clean with his error, but it is not a lie. If he does not do something that he has 100% control over after promising to do it, then he lied.

Maybe he had his dates wrong, or he was CEO in name only but was not actually doing anything (but getting paid well anyway). I personally do not remember the year I left each of my jobs I have had.

This is all correct but for some reason matt thinks they are all lies.

it depends on how you define "stayed"

his name was on the letterhead, but it doesn't sound like he had any active involvement in the company.
