Still looks pretty interesting to me. I was also attracted by learning to play guitar from GH/RB, but once I got one I hit a wall. I'm a musician, I've played instruments and I can read music, the largest obstacle for me is the muscle memory for playing notes. Reading tabulature or notation for a guitar then reproducing it to what I'm imagining is a dreadfully slow process.

I started playing guitar about 2 years ago. I try to practice every day and this game looks very interesting.

mos def looks interesting...i'll wait for reviews and greater feedback. practicing is fun when you have a game.

makes me say they should take any instrument that can do this output and make a 'smith' series.

must be lots of DSP and filtering behind the scenes, although it probably isn't that much/hard because you are working with a direct input of the signal of interest...i could imagine working on this being super fun from a DSP perspective

ya i got it in and had to go back to gamestop 2 times in one day, due to the neck of the guitar. but over all the game is pretty nice. a lot of mini games to help with learning tricks to play and the music choices have different styles and options.

And for never playing a guitar i am actually learning it at a pretty good pace.

How bad is the lag that is being talked about?

hdmi. you might just need to adjust it. i haven't played around with anything like that so i dont know if there is ability for it. ill check when i get home tonight.

From what I know, you can't adjust it. It's not like Rock Band that's playing a master track that's already there and you just have to adjust how quickly or slowly to make that sound based on your TV. It's taking real guitar input and adding effects to it in real time... which is something that can be either software or hardware limited. I have to same problem when using my guitar on my PC through a similar USB connection, and some software is incredibly laggy and some sounds fine. If the audio is what's lagging then it's the game's fault and it might be patchable. If the audio is fine but the picture is behind, it's your TV's fault but you can't do anything about it.

Seems people are having better luck using RCA as opposed to HDMI. I'm hoping this game turns out well. I really want to get it for the PC.

can't recall what review it was, but one said to output sound directly to different source other than the TV (home stereo, amp,...) and that got rid of lag.

I hope to pick this up this weekend or next.

question, do you create a user name to play so that a second person can create a second one ?.

I bought myself and my son a guitar a year ago. Hope this gets us both started on starting to learn. Just hoping we both don't share the same user account for progress.

Damn, this looks pretty cool.

I've had a guitar for quite a few years but never bothered to take lessons, this could be a fun way to do it.

I do need to get new strings for it, that I know.

So I went ahead and bought this. I decided to use my xbox 360 and change from HDMI to component cables. The only lag I've noticed is on open amp mode, it's slight but very noticeable. I'm having a great time with this. I have my own electric with basic knowledge, but very rusty and it shows. It's pretty amazing how it adjusts in the middle of the song...and keeps adjusting. Is it worth 80 bucks? I don't know, the cable it comes with is quality, the game is good. It would cost far more for a game and an instructor and I've already learned things I couldn't teach myself. Could some things be improved? Yes, but taken as is, this is good. I'm glad my ESP guitar isn't collecting dust anymore. I would definitely recommend to somebody at my skill level, beginner to someone that can play tabs. High learning curve, but definitely worth it.

BTW, I'm planning on using this to advance my playing then get the PC version in December. From there I'll give the 360 version to my kids so they can get a general knowledge and hopefully improve their playing.

Funny thats almost my plan.... minus the kids.
I'm planning on setting this in my office so i can play during break (i am currently at work and have been here for the last 20 hours). For now i'm planning on brining my ps3 here and then later i'll just buy for the pc, maybe sell the ps3 version or give to family.

My order comes in on the 25th. I can't wait.

So I picked it up. My set up is my PS3 to my receiver via optical cable, then out analog to the speakers obviously. I have 0 lag. I'm really enjoying the game. I'm busy with work, etc. lately but this gives me another fun reason to pick up my guitar, the change of pace is nice.

Hey, can a bass be hooked up? is there bass support within the game? I have 5 guitars and 2 basses and prefer bass. I'll get the game regardless but looking into bass boogying.

You could probably plug in a bass but the game is made for guitar.

I picked up the game today. It is really good, been looking forward to a game like this for a long time. If you have never played guitar or are a beginner there will be a steep learning curve, but that is kind of the point. Only a couple issues

1. There will be a lag problem if you use HDMI for the audio, best way is to separate the audio out to a sound system of head headphones.

2. The constant tuning check can be a little annoying, but I guess there is really no way around it since that is what the game is based off of

3. Why is there no native HDTV lag test? You can set it manually but it is a real pain to get it right

4. Loading times are a little long (at least on PS3)

5. For people that are good at guitar (which I am not) the songs might be a little easy. No Judas Priest or Dragonforce here.

Besides that it is well made and I like the song list. It is not a party game like rock band though, this is more for learning the guitar and songs. You will be playing the actual guitar part in the songs on master mode. It will be a good tool for people that actually want to learn instead of banging on plastic buttons. Looks like I will be playing this and madden for quite a long time, well worth the money imo.

I don't think you can plug in a bass, by the nature of the string tune check. Unless you have a 6-string bass with some weird tuning I seriously doubt it'll work.

There are rumors about bass being available through DLC in future though Ubisoft hasn't said anything about it themselves yet.

You could just play the B and E notes on the other strings

Maybe that gets past the tuning (assuming it's pitch and not frequency-specific) but it'll make the game that much more annoying to play for anything using the two strings that are not there.

Thanks, I guess there is no native bass but that ok. I have 5 guitars I could use. I think i'll use my 1978 Vantage LP-Ghost. Ancient goodness!

I agree, game is made for guitar and there is not really bass support. You could play the notes on the B and E strings on the other four, but what's the point?

Dude you will not be disappointed, just make sure you go through a separate audio source and its all good. I have been looking forward to a game exactly like this since guitar hero came out.
