Since you bumped... They just released a Disturbed song pack that looks pretty fun. I'll probably pick that one up at some point.

I have the pc version, and my friend who's more of a veteran player, told me the lag is very noticeable on the PC version. Don't know about the PS3 version...

The issue of lag is typically due to your computer's game settings. I had to mess around with the ini file, but I have no problems of lag anymore (initially yes, there were issues). The PS3 and Xbox360 people have worse problems if you ask me because they can't tweak the ini file like the PC users can.

How long is the cable? I was debating whether to grab this for PC or console and I am still unsure. I want to make sure I can get far enough away from my screen. I also do not have speakers on my PC, so would be restricted to headphones which kind of sucks.

As somebody who has played the guitar on real equipment for years, I have no lag problems on the PC. It could be a slow PC, or the game defaulted to a video/audio correction setting that isn't necessary. The first game had ever so slightly noticeable lag to me, but 2014 is fine. I think I have more lag in my monitor than in the game or audio.

No lag problems here either on my old Q6600 PC. Make sure you're not using HDMI audio, that should solve majority of the issues.

Thanks for the info. So no lag issues with the PC version? That was the last concern I had.

This whole Rocksmith game is new to me so let me see if I am understanding everything.

If I buy Rocksmith 2014...

1. for the PC, to get the DLCs from the original RS, I need to buy and activate the orig. RS on Steam?

2. if I want the songs from the orig. RS game, I need to buy the orig. RS game and the import tool to import the songs from it to RS 14'?

3. If I wait, there should be a fix so I don't need to buy the orig. RS game just to get the DLCs?

4. DLCs are only available through Steam, anywhere cheaper?

5. Are there sales on Steam for the DLCs in packs or just individually?

Looking to get this for someone as a gift and would like to have everything covered. Thanks.

i got the box version 2014. I'm using output through Sound Blaster Z, 5.1 channels. the lag I'm running i7-4770k @ 4.2, 16GB RAM, GTX-780 @ 1080p, 5.1 sound via Edifier. There's a slight lag, very slight, but it's there.

Gah, now I'm even more torn on which version to get. My PC is slower than yours fin, so that definitely concerns me about the lag.

I still have an old Creative X-Fi, so my headphones would be running through that.

Yes, as it currently stands Steam can't associate DLC with multiple games. Keep an eye out for Rocksmith sale on Steam or Amazon - it was going for $7.50 a few weeks ago.

Yep.

3. If I wait, there should be a fix so I don't need to buy the orig. RS game just to get the DLCs?

Possibly, depends on Steam

4. DLCs are only available through Steam, anywhere cheaper?

Only through Steam for the PC. There was a sale on the DLC a couple weeks ago, and they do periodic DLC sales throughout the year. (not much IIRC... maybe 2 or 3 times per year?)

5. Are there sales on Steam for the DLCs in packs or just individually?

Both packs and individual songs get discounted during discount periods.

About the DLC....

This is not true. Rocksmith 2014 will automatically import any DLC you purchased in the old one. It will not import the original songs that came with the old Rocksmith. For those yes, you must purchase the transfer pack. Also any custom songs you may have will not work. (That is coming later).

Maybe why I'm not having lag issues is I run Rocksmith in 720p rather than 1080P. I found 1080P to be too small on the screen.

If it helps sway you, I had far more issues with lag on the 360. First off... Forget using HDMI with rocksmith, you HAVE to use something else for audio (preferably optical). My issue was with my receiver, which added quite a bit of delay to the audio feed that I couldn't control. So even though it wasn't the game itself with issues, I still had problems with my setup that I couldn't fix. This was a lot easier on the PC where my PC speakers are attached directly to the audio outputs.

Since he has not already purchased RS (either original or 2014), buying old dlc WILL require the original RS. Correct me if wrong.

You're wrong

All dlc has been converted to the new version. If you already have dlc then it gets converted for free. If you buy it from the 2014 version then it's already compatible on its own.

I'm addition :
The only reason you need the old game is to get the ORIGINAL songs from RS... Not the DLC

This wasn't the case when 2014 first came out. Did steam fix it? Afaik if you want to get old RS dlc steam won't let you check out IF you don't also own the original RS.

EDIT: seems this has not been fixed yet.

Yes it was fixed in a patch.

It's a Steam issue though, I don't understand how a RS2014 patch will help?

As recently as 10 days ago, RS2014-only users still weren't able to buy original DLC.

Rocksmith 1 DLC Unavailable to purchase when not owning/playing RS1 previously (Steam)
We are looking into this issue and we appreciate your patience. Steam normally has a policy to restrict DLC purchases to those who own a particular game to prevent people from accidentally buying DLC they can't use. So for the original Rocksmith DLC you needed to own the game to buy the DLC. Many games do not support the kind of forward compatibility that we have with Rocksmith 2014 and as a result Steam is not equipped to handle associating multiple games with DLC which is why we're currently running into this problem. Rest assured, we do not intend to impose a RS1 ownership requirement for RS1 DLC and we're working as quickly as we can with Steam to remove this requirement.

Of course this is all assuming amanoai does not own the original Rocksmith. (judging by his OP, he does not)
