I was just looking around on RT and came across this documentary. Text

It does make you wonder- just how many innocent people are currently being held against their will? Are they being tortured? Why don't we hear more about what's going on down there?

I'll definitely check this one out.

Millions of traitors in this country need to be in GITMO

There is a line between tolerance and being an idiot.

You just crossed it.

See you in a week.

There are millions of traitors in this country? How do you know this and who are they?

With that said, I hope this movie can stir up the hornets nest a little bit...

Frightening. People like this are much more a threat to the American way of life than ANY terrorist(s) could ever be.

This is what America is about:
?I love America more than any other country in this world, and, exactly for this reason, I insist on the right to criticize her perpetually.?
James Baldwin

?We must not confuse dissent with disloyalty. When the loyal opposition dies, I think the soul of America dies with it.?
Edward R. Murrow

?The notion that a radical is one who hates his country is naïve and usually idiotic. He is, more likely, one who likes his country more than the rest of us, and is thus more disturbed than the rest of us when he sees it debauched. He is not a bad citizen turning to crime; he is a good citizen driven to despair.?
H. L. Mencken

?Men in authority will always think that criticism of their policies is dangerous. They will always equate their policies with patriotism, and find criticism subversive.?
Henry Steele Commager

?Patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel.?
Samuel Johnson

?To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.?
Theodore Roosevelt

It's a shame we are not tying them. Totally anti-american...This is like 6th grade civics folks. You arrest, hold and try those accused. If you can't make a case for thier guilt you set them free.

Why arnt they?

And politically - This has been a serious stain around the world on our national image and I would'nt be surprised if it lead to more people taking arms against us.

What would you do if USGov held your brother or sister for 4+ years incognito w/o charge? Hostility at the very least.

If they were guilty on battlefeild like had a weapon, ordanace etc - frag them.

I've never read a good justification for this Gitmo situation...

Well, if you've see The Power of Nightmares, it's pretty easy to see why only 10 of the hundreds that have been thru Gitmo have been charged or tried.

The Northern Alliance was being paid for anyone they handed over as a member of "Al Qaeda". Trouble is, "Al Qaeda" doesn't exist in the terms this administration and the M$M have spewed for years.

There seems to be this idea that because we are the "good guys" (a statement I certainly agree with) that EVERYTHING we do is good, by definition. The idea that as good guys, we're almost more obligated to make sure we're not doing bad things, is totally lost on people like you.

The war on terror is designed much like the war on drugs. No real progress, yet neverending.

Now, some of these people may be criminals, but isnt it time to turn these people over the government of Afghanistan and let them decide.

It has been nearly FIVE YEARS since 9/11

Probably a lot. Those Uyghurs being held there were innocent, I believe.

Sometimes I think they just jailed a bunch of innocent people there as some sort of ploy to make real guilty people scared.

While you are totally 100% correct, there are a significant number of people in the US, and I'm pretty sure palehorse is one of them, who believe that they have no rights as defined in the US Constitution or as defined in the Geneva Conventions. This is what the Bush administration has told them, and they are buying it, hook-line-sinker. This would include Jose Padilla and the US Citizen from the middle east who was forced to renounce his citizenship and deported.

The interesting thing is that the main excuse for having Taliban-aligned soldiers from Afghanistan in GITMO is that they weren't uniformed soldiers of a recognized country and therefore the Geneva Conventions do not apply. But the only recognized government in Afghanistan WAS the Taliban-backed one and these were their soldiers. So they ARE deserving of Geneva Convention protections. I'm not saying I want to invite any of them over for dinner as my new best buddy, but there are standards of treatment that these men are due and we have done our best not to provide them with that.

We could start with the traitorous assholes in the Bushwhacko administration. I'd love to see how Bush, Cheney, Rove, Rice, Wolfowitz and the rest feel about it after they've been locked up there for a few months. Then, we can ship them off to the Hague to be tried for war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Aint gonna happen and we all know it.

What difference does that make? I don't care is they are given feather pillows and eat New York Steak prepared by Wolfgang Puck every day. It's wrong to hold people for years under lock and key without trial and you know it. Put yourself in that position if it's difficult to grasp.

would you prefer we decapitate them on TV? or how about we torture them and leave their bodies somewhere in a ditch? or perhaps we should burn their bodies and hang them on a bridge?

no, instead, I believe that they will be held until the end of hostilities, until they face a military tribunal, or until their own countries are willing to take custody of them.

or perhaps they deserve a trial of their peers? how is that going to happen Sherlock? please, do tell!

they are international terrorists and war criminals of the worst kind. all of your fantasies about them being innocent farmers in the wrong place at the wrong time are complete and utter nonsense.

what do you know about the GC's and the Laws of War?

get.a.clue.

ps: i guess it's good that you at least admit to having no clue to begin with!

No, they are alleged to be terrorists ... by an administration that has lied its ass off about virtually every aspect of the so-called "War on Terror". If they are so unquestioningly guilty, why has Bush been so afraid to actually try them? Lord knows they've had plenty of time. Maybe its because so many of them are there due to bogus allegations, BushCo knows it, and they know it will be a huge black eye if they let trials proceed and they start losing.

--------------------------

Riiight, which is why many have been released three years later no charges no explaination no severance. Kids in that group too. all terrorist of the worst kind? Or perhaps they really were farmers.

You can think they are all "international terrorists and war criminals" all you want but until proven no one belives us. It looks bad, makes enemies, makes USA look like some south america sh1t hole where people just "disappear". No charge No trial, no Lawyer. I know you'd be very comfortable as an "enforcer" in one of those regimes but most people see it as a black eye and America has lost her way.

LOL so true how can you believe ANYTHING coming from this whitehouse. Remeber the war was going to cost 200 million? Only off by 100 orders of magnitude.

Anyway has this palehorse ever engaged in serious discussion here?
