When I first saw the thread, I thought it was bullshit. But ... it wasn't.

What Dennilfloss did was the single greatest thing I have ever read on an internet forum. A hoax of such huge proportions I can't see anyone ever topping it. In a strange way that will be his legacy as even today people are reading about Nowheremom for the first time.

While I think it was a huge mistake to reinstate the man, which had the possibility of enabling him to go back to his virtual identities, he rose above it and I genuinely enjoyed his posts.

I was in an online support community some years back, several of the people I encountered there maintained a fake identity of another person (one guy was half a menagerie of other guys), which they subsequently "killed off" - obviously as a means to garner sympathy from others.

Thing is, they could have had that for free without the deception; that was literally the point of the support community.

I realized that people like these are emotional parasites, vampires who feed off of others while giving nothing back, and withdrew myself. It's really very sad, but their dishonesty is too exhausting to deal with, and probably incurable. Best you can do is simply shut them out of your life.

Not sure what exactly makes someone behave this way, but it's some serious mental issue for sure.
