Yeah, at this point I'm so utterly disheartened about our totally ineffective government that I don't see any point in even paying any attention to the process. I'll just plug my ears and pretend Washington doesn't exist, because I'd rather it didn't.

I haven't been paying attention to the news lately anyway, and whenever I do look it just makes me depressed and angry. It's so sad that the people who are ostensibly "running" the country are so incompetent and hate America so much.

I don't think I'm voting again. At least, I'm not sure it makes any difference. You know how you can mess with a misbehaving child by giving them a false choice? "Do you want X or do you want Y?" That's basically where we are.

We, as Americans, have failed here. Bottom line. These elected assholes are there BECAUSE WE PUT THEM THERE!!! Because ignorant fucks who can't see beyond themselves or stupid ass campaign ads step into the voting booth and keep voting for the same, crooked retards over and over and over again.

I'm done. I WILL NOT VOTE FOR A SINGLE INCUMBENT in the next election, period.
Keep in mind that one party isn't asking for anything in exchange for their votes keep the gov from shutting down. ;)

Meh, typically these don't last very long. Think the longest was under a month IIRC, usually they only last a couple of days. Plus a few useless civil servants staying home not getting paid is hardly a big hit to the economy. Essential services will still be there. I'm sure everyone at the NSA will still be there with their $50 billion to creep on your Facebook page. :D

It just costs the government more money. There are still deadlines to meet nad work to be done, so they'll have to pay extra to meet them after however many days of shutdown. Nothing good comes from this, no money is saved, just more is lost.

We'll just print more money. It's not a problem when things are going your way. Why is it a problem now?

I love how the left gets all fiscally conservative when faced with a setback they can blame on someone else.

There were dozens of Tea Party supported reps who ran under the "no compromise" line. Now that they have done what they said they would do they can't now claim its the Dems fault.

Yes, they said that: 10 best #shutdown quotes
Tuesday, October 1, 2013 by:david.mccumber@hearstdc.com (David McCumber, Washington Bureau Chief)

Quotes on the shutdown pinging around the Twitterverse this morning:

1. Pride in accomplishment: “The House has done its work.” — Speaker of the House John Boehner.

2. When jumping off the cliff just isn’t enough: “Lemmings with suicide vests.” — U.S. Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., describing his GOP House colleagues.

3. We have met the enemy, and he is us: “We have elected an ungovernable collection of snake-handlers, Bible-bangers, ignorami, bagmen and outright frauds, a collection so ungovernable it insists the nation be ungovernable, too.” _ Charles P. Pierce, Esquire.com

4. Run that by me again? “You can’t accuse me of beating my wife and then turn around and tell me isn’t that true.” — Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., on CNN.

5. This guy’s clearly ready for Congress: “Just as the Fugitive Slave Act was an overreach by the federal government, so too we understand that Obamacare is an assault on the rights of individuals.” — State Rep. William O’Brien of New Hampshire.

6. Well, that’s a relief: “This doesn’t impact me mentally.” — Sean Hannity on the shutdown.

7. There is a Santa Claus: “It’s exactly what we wanted, and we got it.” — Rep. Michelle Bachmann on the shutdown.

8. Um, see No. 7 above: “Democratic leaders in Congress finally have their prize: A government shutdown that no one seems to want but them.” — Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.

9. What do you mean, that’s nonessential? “Sorry, we won’t be tweeting/responding to replies during the government shutdown. Back as soon as possible.” — USA.gov notice

10. Finally, some plummy British understatement: “It’s all quite bonkers” — BBC reporter.

I'm done. I WILL NOT VOTE FOR A SINGLE INCUMBENT in the next election, period.

Pretty sure it's just as bad to blindly vote for someone because of party allegiance or whatever as it is to blindly cast your vote for the other guy. In other words, do you homework before you vote. :|

Is this the part where Jericho happens? Because I'm going to need to stock up on more Pop-tarts if that's the case.

I've been able to fend off the looters for now but I'm out of ammo and down to using a crossbow. I've been preparing a group to head into the city ruins on a raid to forage for food and water.

For all you concerned Patriots out there I want to share some intel I had a bit of a scare when some strange new cult calling itself the "Girl Scouts" approached my location with the lure of cookies. They clearly were using their small size to make it harder to pick them off. Years of playing first person shooters came in handy!

Just be careful opening the boxes as some are rigged to blow.

I'm not going to vote anymore either. All of these retards that run our county just care about making the opposing party look bad and don't care about what they can do to make our country better.

This isnt the first time a shutdown has happened & it wont be the last. Put your big boy/girl pants on, youll survive.

This is shutdown #18 since 1976. More interesting, it's the FIRST one since 1995.

1 shutdown in nearly the last 18 years.
17 shutdowns in the previous 19 years before that.

Put's it into perspective.

The start of bankrupt America has begun.....

That started long ago. It's just a game, where people pretend to make/spend/lend/borrow money that doesn't exist. The whole thing's an elaborate stage play.

The concept of money is itself "make believe" though...

New Rule: If you can't make a decision after months of debate and you need to shutdown, you're out and we vote in new ones.

Hmm I recall that we staved off a shutdown a few years ago because they passed a continuing resolution and then took quite awhile to finally pass a budget.

That's what I mean. Money used to be chickens. I have a chicken, and I give it to you for a bag of flour. Then came a promissory note as a representation of chickens. It said I had a certain number of chickens that could be exchanged for flour. Now there are no chickens, and there is no flour. Everyone pretends it exists, and they pretend untenable loans will somehow, some day get paid back. It's religion at this point.

I don't think we have had a budget for 4 years but I could be wrong.
