They should riot if the Grand Jury acquits. It tells them what they have suspected all along, that their police are above the laws, and that protesting is not going to change that.

The Grand Jury is not a criminal trial, it is just a formal hearing to see if there is reason to bring charges against the accused. There are 6 eye witness accounts that claim he killed that kid in cold blood, even if a criminal trial finds that they are mistaken, or that their was unusual circumstances that lead to an acquittal, all a Grand Jury needs is probably cause, the same level of suspicion that the cop needed to stop Brown in the first place. There is undoubtedly enough for probably cause. The very fact that the Grand Jury has taken so long to see all the evidence tells us so.

This extended Grand Jury session has been a ploy to allow tensions to die down so they can sweep it under the rug, except tensions haven't died down and now they just going to sweep it under the rug anyway.

Based on what you think you know, they shouldn't acquit. But if the grand jury hears all the facts and decides to acquit, won't you then reason to accept that maybe you don't have all the evidence?

Grand juries don't convict or equit, they only rule on whether there's enough reason to move to a trial. If they decide not to bind over for trial the prosecution can empanel a new grand jury and try again though that doesn't happen very often. If they rule that it should go to trial then there will be a trial with a couple possible outcomes.

Odds are the grand jury will not find sufficient reason for trial and even if they do the odds are very high that the cop will not be convicted. I'd say 30% chance of it going to trial and if it does perhaps 5% chance of conviction.

So yeah, there's likely to be rioting, violence and fires in many places.

Oh. A "practice what you preach" admonishment that just re-emphasizes my own point. :hmm:

You imply that I pretended there's "not a hell of a lot of reasons to take issue with the police in the St. Louis area." I'm confused. Where did I do that?

Dari has jumped to the conclusion that Michael Brown is an angel (or gentle giant) and Darren Wilson is a corrupt thug/liar. Dari already reached that conclusion without considering the facts of this case / scenario. His conclusion is based on his opinion of cops in general. He made an ignorant statement about judging individuals as part of a larger group without considering the actions of that individual. He's being willfully ignorant about the individual actions of Michael Brown while saying everyone else is "racist" for believing that MB was a violent thief (the "violent thief" conclusion was based on video evidence of MB's own actions just moments before his death). At the same time, Darren Wilson is already "guilty" in Dari's mind. Just because he's a cop. "DW is a cop! That means he's a racist liar! Why would you believe the word of a racist / liar COP?!?"

Where did you see me write that? I only questioned the police story and their character because they should be held to a higher standard. I never discussed Brown's character.

And, look here, folks. A cop killing a black man because he was black. And, naturally, the cop was afraid. This is exactly what I'm talking about. Police are there to serve the community, not be an occupied force and treat innocent people with contempt and suspicion. There is zero reason for that cop to even have his gun out, let alone fire it. All the man was doing was taking the stairs instead of waiting for the elevators. Criminals charges should be brought:

New York City Police Department Commissioner William Bratton says an officer-involved shooting that killed a man inside a public housing building in Brooklyn Thursday night appears to be accidental.

It happened around 11 p.m. at the Louis Heaton Pink Houses in East New York.

Bratton says two officers were patrolling a building when they reached what he described as a dimly lit stairwell and encountered an unarmed 28-year-old man identified as Akai Gurley of Brooklyn.

Bratton says officer Peter Liang then reached for his gun and opened fire accidentally, hitting Gurley in the chest.

He was pronounced dead at Brookdale Hospital.

Officials at 1 Police Plaza called the shooting a terrible accident, and say lighting in NYCHA buildings needs improvement.

"The officers saw that there were no lights in the stairwell leading to the roof. For safety reasons, before entering the stairwell, police officer Liang drew his flashlight and weapon. The second officer did not draw his weapon, according to our preliminary investigation," Bratton said.

"I don't have to tell anyone that that there have been decades of disinvestment in NYCHA. And this is an uphill struggle. But clearly, getting lighting right is crucial both for the quality of life of residents and for safety," said Mayor Bill de Blasio.

Officer Liang has been stripped of his gun and badge and placed on modified duty.

Officials say the extended patrol at the Pink Houses is part of a violence reduction program because the development has seen a series of violent crimes, including two homicides this year.

Why would some other cop's accident have anything to do with this unless you are treating all cops as *gasp* some monolithic group?!

And that is the problem right there. You see blacks as this one monolithic group. They aren't. It's extremely stupid. "They" is nothing more than a reflection of the person who is talking.

Quoted for shame.

That was no accident. You don't draw your gun unless you see danger. Officer Liang (most likely Asian) was scared shitless and drew his fucking gun when he had no reason to. All he needed was his flashlight. If he had a reason to draw his gun, his partner would've as well. Then, Officer Liang saw a black man and did what any cop would do. He shot him. Why? Because he's black and the Officer feared for his life.

In the case of Wilson and Brown, Wilson also said he feared for his life. Why? Because Brown was black (and big). Police need to remember that they're there to serve and protect, not collect a paycheck and play Cowboys and Indians.

I hear the Black Panther Liberation army is assembling.
In retaliation the Feds will release Charlie Manson to lead the race wars. ~
Jesus will be resurrected for 5th and final day of the riots.
The apocalypse will be televised.

The drawing wasn't accidental. The shooting, allegedly, was, and you have no reason to think otherwise. The point still stands even if he gunned him down in cold blood because he had a racist bloodlust: you are using it to paint all cops as a monolithic group and you were quoted for shame to prove how blatantly contradictory you are to the point of total dishonesty.

We need some people marching with good signs:

We Want an Arrest NOW, of Holder and Obama.

If you are Michael Brown, why aren't you buried?

Why take out your gun though? Are you so dense to think police walk around the City with their guns drawn? Or in these public housings with their guns drawn? It's a stupid and very dangerous idea. There is zero reason for him to have his gun drawn in a situation like that (his partner's wasn't).

And no one said he had a bloodlust, not I at least. Just saying he feared, was suspicious of, and perhaps had contempt of blacks. If he didn't his gun would not be drawn. If he was scared because the lights were out he shouldn't be a cop. Perhaps hiding under the bed or under his mother's blouse would suffice.

Depends on what kind of call they were responding to. Also. His training and or instincts may have told him that a dark stairwell could be a trap. If someone knew the cops were responding and wanted to ambush them, that's where they would do it. Heck, they might even sabotage the lights in anticipation. None of this is relevant anyway and I am only responding to show you your lack of understanding/imagination since you only seem capable of imagining a scenario where he is bloodthirsty rather than inept. He could have had a genuine bloodlust and deliberately shot the first person in his sights and it still has no bearing on the topic at hand.

I'd really hate to live in Ferguson for thanksgiving.

Especially considering at least one NBPP plot has been foiled already. Who knows what else the anarchists and violent factions that have gathered in that city are planning.

Jesus, the prosecutor is doing exactly what he should not be doing in a case like this.
He's blabbering away about shit that the protesters are unconcerned with.

Only the people at home, calm and objective, are even mildly interesting is his long-winded speech.
