Yes you have to stop. If your light is red, someone else's light is green. You must yield to them. Fucking moron.

Hahhahahahahahaa...

I am laughing but it is also very sad.

Here's the street view
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&sou...=2nRrEl27MJ2JCAN9XgHRwg&cbp=12,63.66,,0,-4.97

No yield sign, just a traffic light. But that traffic light could possibly be for the lane to the left of it.

Unless you are superman, you should absolutely slow enough to see if the turn is going to be safe.

Is it equivalent to a Stop sign?

No.

You should behave like it is a yield sign. You yield first to pedestrians and then to other cars, unless you have safely determined that you will driving into your own dedicated lane, which would eventually merge down the line to the right lane.

No reason to stop for traffic or red lights , you have your own lane. All pedestrian laws still apply though.

in this specific instance, I wouldn't even consider it to be a right on red so much as a merge, unless there's specifically a stoplight for that merging lane, since it diverges significantly before the traffic stop for the left 5 lanes.

In every state in which I have lived, you have to stop before proceeding unless specifically marked or sporting a right hand turn lane with Yield sign.

This.

Most right turn lanes with yield signs around here go into their own lane so you really just look for pedestrians.

So it would seem those advocating for the OPs license to be confiscated should have their own surrendered insteadl. :p

Right turn on red

In North America, with some exceptions (most notably in New York City and the Island of Montreal; see below), one may turn right during a red light after coming to a complete stop, traffic and safety permitting.
(5) a traffic law or regulation which, to the maximum extent practicable consistent with safety, permits the operator of a motor vehicle to turn such vehicle right at a red stop light after stopping,

My 2c, you still need to look for incoming traffic just to be safe. Stop/yield if there are any. Note the yellow "Pedestrian yield" sign.

Definition of Yield:
stop for anyone who has the legal right-of-way, otherwise, continue

More accurately: a rolling stop, to give time to properly judge safe passage in the event of no traffic or pedestrians with the right-of-way. Obviously, a true stop or at least rolling slow enough if there is traffic or pedestrians.

You do not have to come to a complete stop when there is a yield.

Though I have seen some right-turn-lanes that had a full traffic light. With green, you have right away (logic dictates you make sure no asshole making a left-turn is creating a hazard situation). With red, you are required to come to a full-stop, though typically you are still allowed to complete the turn if there is clearance.
I have seen no turn on red signs, but never in a dedicated right-turn-lane.

Dedicated right-turn-lanes, unless there is signage or signals specifically for that lane, do not operate under the same laws of the intersection's signals.
As stated earlier in this post, right-turn-lanes are under a "Yield", regardless of which direction of traffic has what color of traffic signal. Technically, there is right-of-way if the original direction has a Green Light forward, as right-turns have right-of-way over left turns from the opposite direction. But if your original direction has red, you have a Yield to the traffic you are entering - no traffic, you can go. No lawful requirement to stop at a yield sign if there is no traffic or pedestrians for which you must yield.

If there is a sign or signal, obviously the rules for that intersection are now based upon those.

LOL at the person who quoted wiki for the "United States" traffic laws...lol.

There's definitely only one set of traffic laws regarding right-turn merge lanes. Oh wait, except his post didn't mention those. oops/

lolol did you even see the google maps link? There's no one to yield to except possible pedestrians.
Logic dictates that you should need to stop, but no one stops there for a red, not even cops, hence this thread.

SO FUCK OFF YOU GAPPED TEETH CUM GUZZLING COUSIN FUCKER.

If they didn't want you to stop, it would be a green arrow. Moron.

What I appreciate about this thread is the total lack of ability to learn from the mistakes of others.

astroidea drives a yellow Mitsubishi riceburner with tinted brake lights. And he's Asian. His ignorance should come as no surprise.

Might as well making fun of his slanted eyes and small penis while you're at it. What a stereo-typing douchebag.

If it is normal cross type intersection, most, if not all states is "Right on Red After Stop" in areas where right on red is allowed. As to the intersection depicted in drawing, that should have a YIELD sign near the merge point. A closer look at that photo show a RED Right Facing Arrow. That would indicate You Can Not turn while it is RED. That is how it is here in NJ for that type of light.

umm, no, "moron". A green arrow would mean you don't have to yield to traffic coming from the other direction. why do people have such a difficult time being reasonable and figuring things out with common sense. it really is sad how dense people are

I never stop for these type of right turns, there is no Painted Line like there is for a stop sign or at the intersection, some times there are yield signs..ect

You see no Painted "STOP" Line on the right turn, just the normal painted cross walk.
