In 100 years we went from teaching latin and greek in school, to remedial English.

School barely teaches a young adult how to function in society, but you want to complain about science? We have kids finishing high school who can barely read, write or do basic math. And you want to worry about science?

You are not concerned about education. All you wish to do is push an agenda.

Maybe because there is no reason to now, duh?

Yes the Science they get should not be fairy tale non- science. Folks have a problem with that move to some third word county please. Or maybe they could learn Latin, that will help get them a job!

And as for science as an agenda? Hell yea.

I don't trust Rick Perry to recount Obama's words to him. is there a third party, or another governor who can verify what was actually said, verbatim?

Dude, you are a self-proclaimed slacker and considered studying in school "working for free." You should be the last person to give advice about educational policy.

No, he shouldn't be on any list to give advise, period.

Rather than one side or the other pushing an agenda, lets have honest science in school.

What are you talking about? Honest science means teaching evolution. Period.

You also didn't answer my question: do you know what a scientific theory is?

That is exactly right. School and homework are equivalent to slavery.

So what exactly is "honest science".

Seriously, you are making a very good case as to why Texas shouldn't be allowed to make its own decisions about education.

Why dont you explain it to me?

Better yet, why dont we teach sound scientific facts in school rather than theory?

Um ... scientific theory is facts dude. That's what theory means. It's a collection of facts and an explanation of what the evidence of those facts point to. They're provable and have been confirmed through repeated observation and/or experimentation. To think that teaching a scientific theory is anything other than teaching facts is to show why you have no place talking about science. You're simply too damn ignorant to get to have a voice here.

Yep, this is why science is going to lose. If I am not qualified to be an engineer because I reject/disagree with evolution, then I'd just start "believing" it in for the sake of employment.

1) Do you want people exchanging one belief for another?

2) Do you want people accepting evolution because science does, NOT because they appreciate the evidence?

If either becomes true, science will lose.

Yall are a good example of why the government needs to stay out of school.

You can no more explain why evolution should be taught in school than why religion should not be taught.

Evolution can "somewhat" be proven though experimentation with DNA. Rather than relying on sound science, yall throw stones. But yet you would ridicule religion?

None of your arguments are any better than some religious zealot.

If you want to get right down to the details, scientist are working on modern chicken DNA to see if they can extract ancient dinosaur DNA. In other words, there are scientist working on an evolutionary road map using DNA.

And that gentlemen is sound science.

Slavery? Then it must be a miracle that I'm doing pretty well in life, considering I studied hard in "slavery" high school/college/and grad school.

Please do tell us how you are doing in life (intellectually and financially), TexasHiker, having escaped the slavery that is public education?

overall, a douche thing to say from Obama, if true (this is Rick Perry related what he said, right), but Obama does have a point wrg Texas and education.

I wouldn't trust Mr Hair to make such decisions, either.

Considering Texas has some of the best engineering universities in the nation,,,.

made up of international scholars and engineers....

the discussion is about primary education. When you get to higher education and research, institutes; the policies of the state that host these institutions are meaningless outside of money.

When talking about states and education, you are only talking about K-12.

Evolution can be proven beyond any doubt. We may not know every single tiny detail, but we know it occurs and most of the how and why. Your argument is the equivalent of saying that because we don't fully understand how gravity works, that gravity must not exist and shouldn't be taught. I don't "believe" in evolution, I've just studied it enough to understand it. Just like I don't "believe" the sun provides warmth to our planet, I understand the basic concepts of heat and light energy caused by the fusion occurring within the sun. Do you instead worship the sun god that causes your life giving warmth? Because your arguments sound like one who does.

Evolution can and should and ultimately must be taught in schools because it's science. Religion can be taught in schools in the context of history or philosophy, but not science (public schools at least). Because IT'S NOT SCIENCE.

The thing you don't seem to get is that evolution relies explicitly and exclusively on sound science. Just because you don't understand it doesn't make it less real.

Saying that government needs to stay out of public schools could honestly compete with the stupidest thing you've ever said. Which is one HELL of an accomplishment.

That is right, slavery.

What other institution forces someone to be at a certain place by a certain time, without due process of law, or face financial penalties or even jail?

In other news, children forced to eat their veggies are being subjected to forced ingestion of foreign substances. NEWS AT 11.

You realize that there are in fact few scientific theories that we know of that are more thoroughly proven than evolution, right?

It is basically the textbook definition of sound science. Therefore, I assume you strongly support evolution being taught in schools.

What institution besides slavery and prison forces someone to preform a certain action or produce a product for free?

Yes, I even posted a link to a theory.

No, my argument is not anything like that of a religious zealot. My argument is based on known, verifiable, repeatable, observable, provable, undeniable evidence. Religious zealots arguments are based on unprovable faith. You clearly don't understand how separation of church and state works. You clearly don't understand what science is or how it works. You are part of the problem with this nation and why we lag so far behind in science and math education. You're downright proud of your ignorance. Which I find detestable.

My parents made me rake the leaves and mow the lawn when I was a kid. Little did I know they were slave drivers. GEE MOM AND DAD, YOU'RE THE WORST.

Yes, I even posted a link to such a theory.

No, you posted a link to work being done using the proven principles of the theory of evolution.
