Tons of FWD cars have spoilers, and most people think they look nice.

Well, on *some* cars it actually helps the styling and looks good. But 99% of the time it just looks like ass. What does FWD/AWD/RWD have to do with the spoiler? No road car needs a spoiler, AFAIK. Which is why it's so ludicrous to see so many aftermarket wings, etc.

Btw - why do I have to change my sig? What's wrong with it?

  • You forgot to answer the first part of the question.

Tons of FWD cars are riced, and many people think they look nice!

Edit: Seems like only posers have spoilers. True sports cars don't even seem to need 'em!

Whether the thing is installed by your neighbor's kid, or installed at the factory, it's still a "ricer" thing to do.

Rice is modifying your car's appearance with aftermarket lights, rims, body kits, etc. while not enhancing the performance. What's wrong with it? Nothing IMO, except when people do it excessively, especially to old, beat up cars. Some people like rice, others do not.

Explain to me why it's not OK for a manufacturer to put a spoiler/wing on a FWD car?

"Explain to me why it's not OK for a manufacturer to put a spoiler/wing on a FWD car"

I didn't say it's not OK, I'm saying it's RICE!

my mom ordered our acura with a spoiler... i would hardly call her a "ricer"....

gopunk, your mom is a ricer. 😀

jk... but like I said, some (usually the ones that come from the factory with it) look fine with spoilers. What I don't like is the disgusting ones, mostly aftermarket wings.

Porsches need spoilers because of their rear engine config.
my car has a hit of a spoiler on the trunkline. it helps with stability at high speeds (90+mph or so).

So it's just a matter of degree? No real "litmus test" for whether a car can be considered "riced"? If that's true, then it's just your opinion of what's tasteful and what isn't. And in that case, even factory "riced" cars bug me!

I hear ALL KINDS OF CRAP about people buying SUVs and not using them for "their intended purpose". Well, WTF? It's OK to buy a factory ricer-mobile, poser sports car and not use it for it's "intended purpose", but if your neighbor buys a poser SUV and uses it as a grocery-getter, that's no good! Either it's a sports car, to be used for racing, or it's a rice-mobile. Even if it was the factory that installed the spoiler and ground effects etc.!

you can't really compare getting a spoiler to getting a behemoth that's twice the size of a normal car.
