I hear ALL KINDS OF CRAP about people buying SUVs and not using them for "their intended purpose". Well, WTF? It's OK to buy a factory ricer-mobile, poser sports car and not use it for it's "intended purpose", but if your neighbor buys a poser SUV and uses it as a grocery-getter, that's no good! Either it's a sports car, to be used for racing, or it's a rice-mobile. Even if it was the factory that installed the spoiler and ground effects etc.!

I think it's one of those things where you know it when you see it. I would hardly call a Camry with a factory installed spoiler "rice." But a Camry with VTEC stickers and a ground effects package and a huge wing would be.

Whether the thing is installed by your neighbor's kid, or installed at the factory, it's still a "ricer" thing to do.

I suppose that is 520 bhp of rice right there?

590bhp of rice right here!

Yeah, but it doesn't have to look ridiculous like that. It's the fact that it looks like it does, that makes it rice. It can have all that power and look GOOD. Instead it looks like that. Blech. :disgust:

Not that i'd mind having that kind of car - I just wouldn't make it look like that :)

You're telling me a car with that wing is NOT rice? Right.

Yep, that wing on a Honda Civic DX is rice. On an R34 GTR? No way.
Why does it make a difference if the fugly wing is on a slusheconobox, or a car with actual muscle? A wing is a wing, looks like crap no matter what. It's useless. Blech I say. Why not just do without, and without the damn skirt kits? The car would look so much nicer, and would probably actually be a little quicker, due to less drag. If those people cared at all about the performance of their car, why would they spend thousands on purely aesthetic components? The fact that they DO that, and waste so much money on crap, rice, proves that they're ricers, and their cars are rice. Even if it has muscle.

And yes, I'd even consider my favorite muscle car RICE if some dumb kid put $10k worth of rice sh!t on it. That doesn't mean all muscle cars would be rice, just that one.

Same goes for the R34. That one is rice. Not all of those cars.

Any car that has the potential to cruise at over 120MPH for any length of time will have high speed rated tires, be RWD and perhaps even have a spoiler. Funny how a kick ass, true sports car like the Z06 can function just fine without one, though, eh?

I have no problem with that rear spoiler on a Skyline because it's got the balls the back up it's aggressive styling. That particular Skyline you linked is fugly because of the graphics and racing stripes crap. It would like a hell of a lot better without that stuff on it. I can't believe they put an APC sticker on a skyline. :disgust:

--edit:

The decals are what makes it "rice" (unless those companies are really sponsoring the car) not the spoiler. But I use the term rice loosely in this example.

I just hate the wings. It does not look aggressive! The Huyundai Tiburon (both new and old models) look aggressive. That is aggressive styling and the spoiler on that car suits it, so it doesn't bother me at all. Wings look ridiculous on any car, cause it's a damn tray on two sticks. :| I agree on the stripes. But IMO, any car that has that *look* is rice, the wing, the skirt, the stripes, any stickers, etc etc. All that stuff... it's useless. Why bother getting useless stuff for your car and PAY for it? At least if you buy a receiver, amp, sub, spkrs, etc - you can listen to higher quality or louder music. There is a use. If you replace your wheels with wider ones, and slightly lower profile tires, then there's a use - you get better traction, nicer cornering/control with your car. So even if they have ridiculously ugly, shiny as hell rims, I can cope with that... It's not my taste, but at least it may still handle nicer than skinny stock wheels.

But the wings? Come freakin on! Blahhhhh! :p

A riced out car looks aggressive as hell but has no balls. If the car has actual muscle it is NOT rice. It may be fugly (but looks are subjective) but it is NOT rice.

And I agree with you, that particular R34 is fugly as heck.

I find a "riced out car" to be fugly regardless of what car it is. Normally I have no problem with a stock (or maybe with nice set of wheels) Civic, or any other econobox. They're usually fun small cars and the styling (at least in older style civics) is nice. IMO the body kits and wings make it look like complete ass. Even if a Civic had 1000hp I'd still think it looks just as fugly and I'd still think the mods would make it qualify as rice.

When I look at rice, it either makes me want to A) Laugh, B) Cry, C) Puke. It never ever makes me think "hey.. wow, that car looks mean!".. except for one car that i've seen which was a modded tiburon, didn't look like the car anymore though. didn't have a spoiler, was silver, the skirt was 100% seemless. Maybe it was just lowered, I dunno. But it looked awesome.

I dunno, I guess the ricerlook really just completely puts me off.

I guess we just have different definitions of rice, but it's all good. :) I hate riced out cars just as much as the next guy.

My general definitions are:

  • Overly aggressive body kit (i.e. ninjacar, veilside, that kind of crap) I think that subtle body kits do improve the look of a car. Compare the Audi A4 --> S4, or BMW 3-series --> M3 for an example of a subtle kit.
  • 19" wheels or greater
  • Cut factory springs, or lowered to the point that the tire hits the fender when turning, or you bottom out on a speed bump. A 1.3 inch drop is fine with me
  • Huge spoiler on FWD econobox. Huge spoiler on Supra or Skyline is alright.
  • "Altezza" style taillights on any car except the Toyota Altezza.
  • Any kind of "R" or "Type-R" badge that doesn't belong, or having badges of another car manufacturer on your car. Such as a 4 door Acura Integra Type-R GTR. Or a Ford Mustang GTR.

Ahem, #2 is a R34-GTR Skyline. I don't consider it a rice car, and I would love to own one. Does anybody have 90K?

Well everybody has their own opinnion. If you consider the Skyline a rice car thats ok with me.

I keep seeing lots of ppl saying the Camaro is a "sports car," I admit it may be fast but I consider it a mullet car.

ahhhhaha. But you have to respect a car of its kind even if it is a domestic... regardless of what side of the line you're on, a camaro is a powerful, great handling car.

But... i'd rather have a Skyline. :)
