My dad went to Japan to do some presentation, he came home with a rice cooker 🙂. It's ten years old and it's still better than anything available in the US market.

my rice cooker cooks rice, it was like 10 bucks, and all it does is cook rice when u want it to, ....10 bucks well spent rather then a ricecooker for 80 bucks with a microprocessor in it and ish. I wonder how much u can overclockit

Wow i didnt know there were that many ghetto asians over here.

I love Fan Jiu too. ITs like a after dinner treat

Hahaha....

<< I am sad at the state of rice cookers in america. Our rice cookers pale in comparison to those available in japan. >>

LMAO! Dude, that's kinda sad. You don't have anything better to worry about? 😉 Seriously though....good point made about it just holding the conents until time to cook it. Rice doesn't cook slowly. If your rice sat there and cooked all day on a low heat, it would be CREAM OF RICE by the end of the day. There would be NO distinguisable grains, and the misture would basically be dirty water incapable of holding its own volume AT ALL. Don't beleive me? Try it.
Also, just because a rice cooker doesn't have an electroluminescent panel and an OC-3 connection to the MATRIX does not mean it is gonna cook rice any worse than any other cooker. The water boils, steams out, the weight changes, and the cooker turns itself to low heat. That is with ANY rice cooker. THE RICE does the work.

What Japanese brand can we not get here?
I am pretty sure we can get any of the main high tech brands such as Panasonic, National (also a Panasonic brand), and Zojirushi.
If the Panasonic/National brand is good enough for the Iron Chefs, then it must be very good.
