Rice Cookers

loogie

I am sad at the state of rice cookers in america. Our rice cookers pale in comparison to those available in japan. Oh well. Here's the one i'm going to be getting soon. 80 dollars well spent. My rice cooker will have more computing power than some third world nations....bwahahahahahaha.

Its gonna be schweet. I can set the timer in advance so that it cooks throughout the day and finishes when i get home. It also adjusts the cooking process so that the rice will be perfect no matter how much you fvck up in your water measurements.

That thing only holds 6 cups of rice? that's tiny
wouldn't it ruin your rice if you, say, put water in a 7 in the morning and it cooks 7 at night? that's soaking the rice for 12 hours.

No. It cooks it slowly, throughout the day. Also, 6 cups is fine with me, I only live by myself and don't need anything larger. It also has a 15 minute quick cook cycle.

Cool loogie, we need a new rice cooker, but i think i will try to get a bigger one than that. 🙂

like anyone cares

one day when I was in grade school, my mom decided to packed those stuff in my lunch box. all my friends were like ewwwwwww what is thaT???

told everyone that these were steamed up white bugs with arms and legs pulled out

<< Rice Cooker/Warmer with Fuzzy Logic control >>

I guess a rice cooker just ain't worth it if it don't have fuzzy logic control.🙂

I have a rice cooker good enough for my needs, it's called a pot.

That model sucks, It doesnt cook the rice in the middle properly and doesnt steam anything worth a@##@. Save yourself the hassle and buy a good old Tiger brand, probally like the one you had back home.

Dude, it cooks the rice throughout the day? How much electricity is that gonna waste?! It's not just cooking rice, it's running the fuzzy logic control too!
I wonder why they can't do it with discrete logic ...
Cooking rice with a pot is the pinnacle of rice cooking 😛

Rice Cooker? I didnt' know they existed. Does it cook Uncle Ben's? You need to get a GrandPappy so you can fry you up some Catfish, Frenchfries, and maybe some HuchPuppies.

Better yet, get a slow cook CrockPot. Throw you a roast with some potatos and carrots in with it. Let that cook all day............mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. You could also put some white beans and ham in it and bake up some cornbread. Man my mouth is watering.

I got this Microwave rice cooker for 9 bucks at wallyworld. makes 8 cups at a time cause I lost the directions and that's the only mesurment I can remember! 😱

Yea I deepfried some rice! ever hear of Rice Crispys? Very similar, good stuff.

HAHAHAHAHHAH

I thought you were talking about "soup" up honda civics... they're the real rice cooker..

Whoa ... but you'll be missing the best thing about doing the rice in a cast iron pot ... the "fan jiu" (sorry, my pronunciation is terrible) - the crunchy stuff that remains at the bottom after you scoop out all the rice. My parents used to have a real old one and we would cook up the rice (works better with "white" rice rather than brown), scoop it out, turn up the heat temporarily to get that extra crunch action, then throw in a couple of cups of water and voila!

Not only do you get your daily iron intake but it's awesome tasting!

Anyone know what i'm talking about?

my parents had a ricecooker in houston. that thing sucked so much i never knew they had it. when they moved to colombia it worked great, though. weird. guess it has something to do with elevation (100' vs 9000') and humidity (95% vs 60%)

To stay on the trend of off-topic-ness, anyone remember how dinner cooked in a slow cooking crock pot used to melt in your mouth? Man, I could go for a slow, home-cooked meal right now!

The good rice cookers are the old school ones where you have to put water on the bottom of the metal pot AND in the rice.

What voltage does yours run at? 🙂

Steamed rice is cheap, if you want some go to your local china gourmet and splurge $2.00 for a bucket o' rice, already cooked, even.

Sorry to blow your bubble, but it doesn't cook throughout the day. 7am you rinse your rice and add appropriate water. You set the time that you want it done, like 6pm. It basically sits there the whole day...Come 6ish or 6:15pm, it'll start the cooking where heat is applied. Upon completion, it'll power down to like 10% heat to keep the thing warm. That's all. I get around it by using a regular appliance timer...non digital...the kind w/turn dials. I just set it for 6pm to turn on and off at 8pm. I get home at 7 and it's all good.
The "fan jiu" thing is kinda bad for an electric rice cooker. I'm affraid the nonstick's gonna screw up cuz basically, the rice burns slightly and the cookers just cooking air...
Also, if it's non-stick, be sure to use the plastic scooper to get the rice out. Otherwise, you'll scratch the surface and'll be eating nonstick. Nasty.
Fuzzy logic seems cool...not much more than a scale detecting loss of water.

If only rice cookers could download recipes from the Internet, while sitting idle for the appropriate time to come, and then cook the rice to that style. Of course, that's assuming the user put in all the necessary ingredients. Now that's an idea! 😛

i never knew why people ate fan jiu... it always seemed to be to be just the burnt leftover part of the rice that no one wanted and were too cheap to throw it out when it could be eaten.

Fan jiu is great! Heating it back up gives it that good roasted type flavor. I'm surprised anybody else on this board knows what it is, much less likes it. 🙂

If somebody made a device that just made fan jiu I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
