Today was Old Food Wednesday. Couldn't decide what I wanted for lunch, so I made Fantastic Foods vegetarian chili mix. I've been eyeing the box for awhile, but never wanted it. Contents looked damp, but I didn't see any bugs, so I decided today was the day. It calls for canned tomato and beans to be added. I had some fire roasted tomato I bought for some reason, and they "expired" in 2013. Some rust on the can, but I estimated it was in good enough shape. I added a can of black beans that expire in a month, and cooked it up.

Once done, I filled a bowl, and tasted a sample to see if it was worth pursuing, and it turned out good! I added shredded cheese, some stale tortilla chips, and a bunch of hot sauce. The mix itself was ok, but I've had better canned vegetarian chili. Can't remember what I paid for the box. I'd have to see how it compares to competing canned products. It tastes distinctly vegetarian. A kind of umami soy flavor. It's a flavor I like, but not as well as others.

So, my win for the day is I got to use a bunch of old food before it got bad, and I still have two or three servings left. I'll fridge it once it cools down.

Just checked my pay and got 3k, 1k more than I normally get. There was a vacation pay adjustment added to it, checked with my boss to ensure it was not some kind of mistake but it was not.

Trying to fast track paying off my mortgage as I'm fairly close to the end, so was able to put $1,500 extra on it. My goal has always been to pay it off by 40 and I might be able to pull it off. Credit line is another story... lol. Clearing my land, new furnace, new water heater, new roof, new truck... last couple years have been expensive.

Start hustling!

Teaching bellydance classes
How to spot and pick up virgin Christian chicks
How to construct a chemical lab and evade detection doing so
How to take a selfie with a bear
Charge for being a personal hygiene instructor (gonna be especially popular with the junkies)

etc. etc.

Going to start a startup, do a mass hiring where I do tons of interviews, like 1,000's per day, waiting room will have tons of vending machines for people to buy snacks when they wait. Schedule every interview for 11:50am.

Nobody actually gets hired, the company doesn't even do anything, but I'm going to sell lot of snacks.

I need to do a bit of cleanup on my NAS at some point myself. Lot of ESXi VMs still there "just in case" but Proxmox has been solid for a while now so probably won't need those anymore.

I bit the bullet and updated two computers to Win 11. The desktop is newer and met the minimum requirements. No issues except to turn off as much of the spyware as I could. The laptop is a 2011 model and fails the hardware check on most counts. I was able to use Rufus to get past the hardware checks and Win 11 is running fine on the laptop. The installer bitched a bit but then ran fine. Now I have to remember where MS hides the settings to turn off stuff. I have to figure out if MS legit broke Notepad. It looks like they added an autosave feature which would defeat the whole purpose of Notepad.

Trying to mimic the MacOS counterpart. The behavior can be turned off thankfully. But the very presence of that feature without any warnings makes Notepad risky. I had some choice expletives for M$ when they updated it through an OS update without warning.

Just got a callout at work, easy 4 hours!

The generator at one of our buildings was making a loud buzzing alarm noise outside so went to check that out and to silence the alarm.

Ended up going to let the tech in and he was a brand new guy that knew nothing about the system, and didn't have any access so I stuck around in case he wanted to go inside and look at switchgear and such or if there might be something I know about that he doesn't. Was kinda interesting to see stuff that I wouldn't be allowed to touch myself. Like forcing the generator to start and such. We ended up having to call in an electrician as he was more of a diesel mechanic and this was turning more into a controls issue. We figured the alarm that was buzzing was for fuel, but it's not labeled, and it's separate from the main alarm panel for some reason. They will setup something on Monday to talk with the actual techs there so they can do more tests as to why that alarm is going off. They suspect that the fuel company overfilled it, as the sensor can go off for overfull situation too.

Not to mention Copilot integration, formatting, etc. Back to Notepad++, I guess!

I fixed my Milwaukee chainsaw, but I'm not exactly sure how. The chainbrake quit working, and due to the way it's setup, it makes it especially dangerous to handle. It was under warranty, but I didn't feel like dealing with that. Anyway, I took the side cover off, and picked a bunch of packed sawdust out of the brake's spring assembly, and it's working now. I expected to find a switch under there, but I didn't see one. Maybe it was there, and I didn't recognize it :shrugs:

Glad to have fixed it, but they need to get their shit together if they want to position their saws as professional tools. Just the little bit I took apart, I saw a bunch of areas that could be improved. It isn't too bad I guess for the money, but I wouldn't want to reply on it as my only saw.

Also, I took the saw outside to work on it cause my saw tools are in the truck, and I was immediately rushed by mosquitoes. I went back in, sprayed myself with my new natural insect spray, and it seemed to work. I'm sure it doesn't last long, but it smells good. It also feels good spraying on a cool mist, so it wouldn't be a big deal freshening it up somewhat frequently.

So my city has this fountain that's always been kind of a landmark but it has been neglected for decades. I remember as a kid always wanting to get to see it working but it was broken even then.

Well they're actually restoring it and going to get it working again. So 30+ years later, I guess I'll get my wish and see it work!

Admit it you just tried to play that video. It's a screenshot.

Trixie's out! I guess it's too soon to say if this is a rfwp or fwp, but it's pretty exciting. Haven't had new stuff in a couple years.

Took about an hour altogether. A lot of that was my slow network. I had one fwp on first boot. I accepted the maintainer's version of grub, and I had a failed boot. I had to reboot to partedmagic to fix grub. Glad I had that thumbdrive handy! So far, the new debian looks like the old debian. I'm even on the same firefox(128) LoL! One of the benefits of running xfce I guess.
