I ordered a x800 xt pe back in July and I called to cancel the order because I got sick of waiting and ordered a BFG 6800 GT. Well when I called to cancel they told me it was supposed to be shipping out today.

So I guess they are both on the way and I was wondering which one is better and which one I should sale or send back?

why don't you simply test them both and keep whichever you like better? too many biased opinions on these subjects to take some people's advice on it. your own experience will prove much more valuable.

depending upon how much you paid for the XTPE you could probably sell it for a substantial profit and keep the 6800GT which certainly doesn't slack in performance...

Because I don't know if I can return them once they have been opened...

I'm concerned with a few things on the ATI card such as drivers... Also barely anyone has one so I don't know if there are more problems with the card it self...
On the other hand I'm concerned about heat with the 6800 gt I have talked to some who own the card and love it but they both have had some heat issues...

I paid 464.99 + 5.00 s&h for the ATI
I paid 399.99 + 3.99 S&H + tax fo the 6800 GT

Really all I want is good performance and I was more or less looking for a reliability issue to make my decision...

There are barely any X800 XTs let alone PEs due to the fact they either haven't made it to retailers in large numbers or the retailers just aren't selling them.

Some sites are selling AGP and PCI-e flavors of plain jane X800 XTs for $580-850, meaning if you can prove you have an XT PE you could very well convince someone to buy it off you for a good deal of money, heck, you might even end up down only $300 or so and still have your 6800GT which you can't really sell off as they are easily found for $400 or less. Now at the same time you might want to keep the X800 XT PE to sell later as it should hold its value longer incase you want to upgrade to an exotic SLI solution.

I dunno, reliabillity has pretty much been a non factor ever since the ATI's catalyst driver series nVidia no longer enjoyed a clear advantage with reliable/stable/fast drivers, and now that there's the Catalyst control center things have really been evened out.

If u r solely looking for performance, why not return both the 6800 GT and X800XT, and get a 6800 Ultra? :)

Because the X800XT PE is faster. :p

Really though, I'd test out both cards before I settled on one of the other. Then sell the card I don't want somewhere.

The XT/PE is faster overall. There really is no denying that. *IF* you can return it once its been opened, I would try them both. Run thru your fav games with fraps, and see which is faster, and by how much. I think the XT/PE will be, but will it be worth $60 faster? Thats your decision.

Nice post. I agree with you 100%.

I personally would keep the GT and seel the XT. Its so rare you can get a really nice price on it and then put that towards the rest of your system.

Hmm, even with the latest 4.9 Catalyst, Doom3 performance is much improved on XTPEs.

That is one biased statement. Also i dont believe it is right. OGL games for instance still run better on Nvidia hardware. If you are going to post crap like that you put some information in there to back it up or your just another troll.

Id like some benches where the XT wins everysingle test except 1.

Are you guys totally serious? I believe upgrading from a GT to a XTPE for 64.00 is a no-brainer.

Keep in mind the X800 XT PE is closing at $600 dollars on ebay. Return the GT. Sell the XT PE on ebay. Buy a GT from Outpost for 350+shipping. Make out with $270 bucks.

Come to think of it if I were you I'd keep the XT PE, return/sell the GT, and then sell the XT PE later as It'll most defiantely hold its value a lot longer than the GT. That way I'd have XT PE performance until a possible SLI solution comes along. Worst case senario is that I'd sell the XT PE for slightly less than I paid for it but at least I'd have the performance between now and then and then have the option of upgrading to something potentially faster and more upgrade friendly.

keep the XT ... a GT is no match for it, especially with your A64 behind it.

Also I agree with the resale potential being greater (more than enough to merit the $65 difference).

MUHAHAHAHA

Seriously now it depends on how you look at it. As many said XT800PE is undoubtely the faster card overall and in your case came at a fantastic price. On the other hand GT provides you with very high speed and SM3.0 at a very good price. So it's a matter of perspective...
Play the games that you prefer run some game benches too(not 3Dmark...) and decide for yourself.
I wish I had that pleasant picking luxury..

The key word is "virtually" which does not mean "everything" it means "almost everything". Learn to read or go buy a dictionary. Yes the GT may win SOME, but its rare. Dont lie to yourself that the XTPE isnt faster than the GT, because it is, and anyone with half a brain will tell you that. In the case of 6800U and XTPE, it is very close and about 50/50. The GT isnt even meant to compare against the XTPE. Thats like saying the X800pro beats the 6800UE. It may win some, but for the most part the UE dominates the x800pro.
